turns out it is not in the same conference

Thanks. And presumably takes its football very seriously.

They had a football team for less than 20 years when they won the conference and Dukes graduated. Dukes appears in Googleā€™s list of famous alumni, but not in the schoolā€™s list of famous alumni. So maybe they donā€™t take their football seriously.

Not even an NCAA college/university. They play in the NAIA.

Eh, with so many teams, isnā€™t it possible that three teams could end up undefeated in the regular season, and the top two will play for a championship while the third team, third for some reason, just slips into the CFP playoff unvarnished? Or, the same for three one-loss teams where there are few undefeated teams among the Power 4?

The 3rd team would get in, but wouldnā€™t have a first round bye.

Iā€™m hoping for more chaos than in 2007.

The public does not really want a consensus champion. The public wants to be able to argue, debate, question, deny, and ridicule whatever ā€œmachineā€ makes the rankings.

Saw an interesting interview with the SEC officials chief. He was talking about the 2 minute warning that is going into affect this year. Turns out it is not adding a media timeout, they are going to save a media time out to use at 2 minutes. And the 10 second run off penalties will start after the 2 minute timeout in each half rather than the last minute. Makes determining when to start implementing them but could cause a team to end up having to use a time out earlier to avoid the 10 sec run off or see a team have multiple 10 second runoffs. Will be interesting to see what happens.

and depending on how the rankings go, could jump ahead of the loser of the championship game by avoiding the game.

I see that as quite probable, not just possible, if it were to happen. But is it actually possible, if each division has an annual round robin in its division?

More whining about ā€œrunning up the scoreā€ and all that shit:

Schiano:

We were going to run plays. We bring a team in here to play us. We bring them here. We bring them in, weā€™ve got to win and weā€™ve got to get reps. And they were there, we took them."

What Howard U did prior to this:

Howard had called two timeouts on its previous possession and turned the ball over on downs at its own 31.

Hey, if you donā€™t want another touchdown run on you, then YOU run out the clock. Lose with dignity, not try to get one more score to win some tiny victory.

They ran up the middle, between the guards. If you canā€™t find one player from your front 7 to make a tackle, then you deserve the embarrassment.

Cam McCormick is playing his 9th year of college football. Heā€™s 26.

Surprised you donā€™t have a max on this. I think Canada has a five year limit which was imposed in the late 1960ā€™s.

You typically only have 4 years of college sports eligibility. That can be extended a couple of ways. First, sometimes players ā€œredshirtā€ freshman year where they practice with the team but donā€™t play so that 4 year clock doesnā€™t start. Second, if you miss the whole season due to injury you can get a redo. The additional wrinkle in recent years was COVID, where the NCAA gave additional eligibility to players that requested it.

This guy had at least a red shirt year and 2 seasons missed due to injury. Not sure if COVID rules came into play.
