that time of year again huh
Unlike last year where ain’t nobody running decided to grace us with their presence, can some candidate please do an AMA?
Why don’t you run CS?
They’ve had so much trouble getting me to volunteer to grade that they stopped asking me.

At first blush they look to be a solid set of candidates - more a case of voting for the best of the best, rather than “against” others
When are we gonna get an AMA
Doing teh actuarials on this, that averages to … 75 candidates a day. Or, for 30 days, that’s going to average out to 2,250 voters. Huge “there are dozens of us” vibe going on.
700 / 11 = 63.636 x 30 = 1,909
Like in a long-distance race, the pace is slowing down after a quick start.
Can anyone who has voted share a bit about who they voted for and why? Felt like people did that last year, and it would be helpful to have some additional perspective.
Does just nobody care this year or something?
Didn’t do as much due diligence as last year, as all the candidates appeared to be good, I went mainly for the ones who presented themselves best in their videos, as opposed to just looking at a script and spouting off the same old lines that the other candidates have discussed over the years. Anand was really strong, I liked Raju’s well-rounded experience. Jason was also really strong, voted for Yi because we had worked together on one of the committees years ago. I was thinking about Simone but would like her to have more experience first.
Congratulations to David Foley, Anand Khare, Jason K. Machtinger, and Simone Renee Walker on their election to the Board of Directors. 22% voting rate, down from last year’s 26%. Not surprised about Anand being the top vote-getter. Seems that young people like Simone have had success in recent years - this may be due in part to their ability to find the best publicity channels to get people to the polls. Not sure I’ve ever seen a vote this close - the runners-up didn’t miss by much, and no candidate really ran away with it.
Can we realistically expect any changes to the way the CAS is run as a result of these elections? How impactful are these elections to the average member’s experience?
Everyone loved what the CAS is doing and wants to continue it, so … no changes, so no meaningful impact beyond what you already believe is happening.
The 22% voting rate isn’t a surprise. I was expecting under 1,700 total voters. But that ~22% is probably the highly motivated part of the electorate, so we can extrapolate their thoughts to the rest of the electorate - especially that part that is highly unmotivated - and draw a valid conclusion about how the membership feels about the CAS in general.
