Butler walks out of practice, suspended 3rd time
The Heat are suspending Jimmy Butler indefinitely after the star walked out of shootaround when informed he would be coming off the bench moving forward.
That would at least be an improvement
I think that game might get ugly as everything would get packed in.
But if they added a foot to the 3 point line and eliminated the corner 3 by having the 3 point line intersect the side lines, that would reduce a lot of the 3 point shots where guys just hang in the corner waiting for a kick out.
Certainly that would make for a more animated commissioner…
Rugby has a similar point system -
Win = 4 points loss = 0
Score 4 or more tries (touchdowns) = 1 bonus point
Lose by 7 points or less (one score game) = 1 bonus point.
If this had applied to the NFL bills-rams game from the previous weekend, bills would have got 2 bonus points even though they lost.
Applying to NBA, perhaps 60+ non-3 point points could give a bonus point or finishing within 10 points.
Weren’t they supposed to be adding 4-pt and 5-pt zones? For the Curry’s of the league association?
ala Harlem Globetrotters?
Or North Korea
I’d like to see them add 10 feet to the width of the court and have the 3 point line not reduce in the corners. Adding more distance could be used as well. But then the defense would have to guard closer to the guy hanging out in the corner. It would make it much more difficult for the defense to guard the perimeter and the block. Now a guy can double the guy in the middle and still close out on the 3 point shooter.

The problem is that if you can back up a few feet to shoot a 3 it makes it very difficult for the defender to help out on defense.

Probably need to push it back far enough that defenders say, fuck it, go ahead and shoot, i.e., the success rate is about 25%-30%.
“Problem” is that some of these shooters are very good even at that range. Maybe not all of them.
Idea: Add a “sixth defender”: a designated player who cannot cross center court line. That would certainly help with stopping breakaways.
The 3 point should ideally have the same or only slightly better expected value than a 2 pointer. When you have people shooting 35% from beyond the arc then you need to be able to shoot 50% from the field in order to have an equivalent 2 pointer.
I attended the Hawks game tonight vs the Bulls. That was an incredibly fun game.

When he got suspended the 2nd time, that should have been the signal that he’s going to FA - but apparently no, Miami needed to FO some more.
when informed he would be coming off the bench moving forward.
It’s better than coming off the bench moving backwards.
If they would have traded him when this all first started I think they would have gotten a decent hull for him. I can’t imagine the return they are going to get is very good now
He is still under contract for a season and a half and might get a half decent return.
They may just really enjoy suspending people and he’s the perfect player in that system.
Adam Silver is open to the idea of shortening the NBA's quarter length from 12 minutes to 10 minutes, though no change is imminent.

Yeah, but not scoring frequency.
Could also make the intermissions longer, to sell stuff.
