Beyond the thought of what the hell are they doing, I would guess that eventuallly this signing spree will run afoul of financial fair play rules. They have players with big salaries that they would like to unload like Sterling, but nobody wants those contract terms.
Really liking the updated style at Liverpool. Still moving forward well, but the pace of getting back on the counters is so much better. There are generally 4-5 guys that are getting back faster than opponents are getting more attackers up. Two clean sheets is a good way to start with Mo, Diaz and Jota scoring. A-A still threatening, but not getting caught too far up half the game.
3 clinical clean sheets to open Slot’s account.
Man U needs to fire the coach. They kept a manager they should have fired after the Crystal Palace loss last season and now in the new season it’s the same old song. They don’t have a solid middle, depth in the team and a plan. We have teams like BHA that see Man U as a customer. It’s a shame.
Not enough is being said about how good this Liverpool team is especially how they played yesterday. After the goal that was disallowed they just levelled up. It was like watching a reserve team playing the first. Mo is fantastic and Diaz was unbelievable. The team defended well and they really pressed. This could have easily ended with 2 or 3 more goals. All this while away.
Maybe not enough for Liverpool fans but I am seeing and hearing enough about how good they are!
Doing another Craven Cottage outing on September 14: Fulham versus West Ham. Not at the level of a Liverpool match but still a fun outing.
I love the runs from Adama. Would love to see a Fulham match some time this year.
Story about all of Europe, but no one will comment in the other thread, and it is mostly about EPL, so:
Two things stand out, to me:
Broadcast revenue? Again, the Premier League, the gold standard, is getting nearly a third less today from its new domestic deal than it did nearly a decade ago. TV rights are, basically, flat. The fact that they’re signing longer deals (relative to the usual three-year agreements) suggests the league prefers stability rather than betting on itself.
So, networks and streamers are getting smart. Less ad time in soccer, though streamer with replays could easily slip one in, make someone watch it, and not miss a second of game time.
Over the long term, the sport will be just fine precisely because there is little in the way of capital investment – you’re not building airports or bridges here – and costs can be cut very quickly. But, for now, it’s time to tighten those belts because, while football will continue to grow, it’s not going to be the exponential, vertical growth some were expecting a few years back.
Yeah, world is running out of crazy billionaires crazy about soccer.
Can’t sell hoitels every year:
Or, can they?
Chelsea Football Club could buy the hotels back for a pound, then sell them back to their “sister” company for another 76M pounds next year.
I fly back 9/10. No games this trip due to stupid international break. Even Championship is not playing. Would have gone to see QPR or Millwall.
Would have been cool to try to catch Ireland v England in Dublin for Nations League
Again, cannot add more ot the other thread, but this affects the EPL, so:
Adding to the philosophy of giving top players a rest from the extremely busy schedule, CHE drop one of their best players from Europa Conference. Cuz, just not that important. And should advance easily through the “Group” Stage anyway.
I focused on Adama at the match yesterday and he had some spectacular runs: a delight to watch.
I just love Craven Cottage as a venue. The weather was awesome and we had a perfect outing until West Ham equalized in the last minute of play.
Wow, Everton is so Spursy.
MLS pricks up their ears:
I am watching this with great interest because City look to be in a bit of trouble (they are very likely to get a small points deduction)
Me too. Now that it seems as if Barcelona was involved in interesting behaviour even in the time Gaurdiola was there. If Man city is convicted I wonder if it may be necessary to normalise his record.
Watched the match today. A shame Fulham didn’t hold on to that lead. Adama made a lot of good runs that opened up opportunities for the other players. It’s an exciting team.
