2023 The Masters Thread

The Tiger penalty was a few years back, should have been clear. I was using that as the Masters would even go so far as to penalize Tiger after a round but not a clear violation on Koepka. If Patrick Reed’s caddie did that yesterday, he would have gotten 2.

Was the third round on TV?

Anyway, i took to watching delayed but at FF1, so no audio and much less waiting between shots, and no interviews.

Currently watching live, and in agony.

Yes, very briefly Saturday afternoon, and then at the crack of dawn today.

Which statio CBS?

My guide didnt get updated. Oh well.

Yup CBS, but also on the Masters app, which is like the best sports watching app ever.

For my particular viewing habits, it will be hard to beat my TiVo.

just gonna toot my own horn a little bit lol

earlier koepka was still leading but struggling and already his body language was just defeated - while leading! looked like he knew he had no magic in him today and then delivered on that look over and over. he recovered enough but for a while it looked like he’d slide off the list of names they were showing.

Ok, the currently ranked #3 former #1 and major winner is a contender is a serious bold prediction.

Best player without major is Xander. Cantlay is probably next. Homa is entering rankings where he needs to compete but hasn’t contended (no top 10s ever). Cam Young has 3 top 10s in last 4 majors. Zalatoris and Hovland would be in the Homa grouping w Zalatoris competing more. Ricky has most accomplished resume behind Cantlay and X. X will win US Open this year. After 6 straight strong outings.

The LIV guys certainly miss the level of competition versus the silly events they play w nobody watching. Brooks will be itching to come back. Happy for Rahm. Love multiple things about his week:

  1. 4 putted first green and when asked about quoted Seve - I miss I miss I miss I make
  2. Had bib 49 for his caddie by luck of when he arrive. 4/9 is Seve’s bday and was day Rahm won
  3. Olazábal won first Masters at 28. Rahm is 28.

Haha fair enough, it wasn’t the boldest of picks for sure. I was largely going off of playing style and recent form.

I had Day as another sleeper pick too because he can putt, had won a major previously, and was coming into form. He had a decent showing until he hit into the water in 15 on Friday. Homa was another pick based on recent form.

I actually don’t think Xander wins a major this year. He has a great overall game, but he seems to have a mental block whenever he’s in contention for a major. Same thing happened this time too.

I think Homa has a shot at the US Open. He’s a California native who’s already won in Southern California this year, on a tight long course with poa greens (Torrey).

One more thing - agree about Cam Young. I think he has a good shot at the British Open. He showed last year that his game fits Open-style golf.
