A new poll shows 33% of republicans support the attack on the capitol
https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/3526469-new-poll-finds-33-percent-of-gop-support-actions-of-jan-6-rioters/
The question itself: “Do you support or oppose the actions of the Trump supporters who broke into the Capitol building on January 6th?”
33% support, 9% unsure, 58% oppose
That is scary. If 40% of adults are republicans, about 12% of adults (plus any non-Republicans). It makes me wonder if anybody I know would answer support.
When a poll agrees with one’s world view, one is quick to bless it. From the article, even 13% of (poll respondents) Democrats supported the actions of the protestors.
For kicks, I found a CBS poll at year-end 2021: “Actions of those who forced their way into Capitol”
D: 12% approve/88% disapprove
R: 24% approve/76% disapprove
I don’t find these results that much different, given how polls are conducted and which people decline to participate in polls.
And as usual, poll respondents are ignorant about what actually happened. (part of the problem)

I don’t want to be your friend anymore if you don’t do this.
I will guess that you are referring to me watching the proceedings?
No, but if you were watching the proceedings you’d immediately know what I was talking about.
It would be incredible if Mike Pence suddenly decided, “you know what, I’d like to testify to the committee and tell them what I know.”
Of course that would require him to have a set of balls, and he’s always shown that women who called his office in Indiana reporting their periods have bigger balls than him.
I have a friend who was there on 1/6, so I’ll answer “yes” that she would likely support those actions. Though she did blame it as a false flag by antifa at the time. Haven’t asked her about it since that day.
Boy, it is difficult to listen to Hon. Luttig. He speaks very slowly and precisely. Long unexplained breaks between words in the middle of sentences.

I think that’s part of the reason this poll phrased the question like it did since it says Trump supporters breaking in. If they just asked people “the individuals that broke in”, a non-negligible % appear to believe Antifa or the FBI were those breaking in.
You can find all sorts of polls that show support for various right wing conspiracy theories in the 10-15% range.

The select committee is refusing to provide the DOJ access to transcripts of witness testimony. This is slowing down prosecution for some.

They’re supposed to TiVo it, I guess.
Or, is this earlier, non-TV’d interviews?
I think it’s the latter.
The televised hearings are not the full documentation that the select committee has assembled.

Do they have to file FOIA requests??

Agree his answers were brutal to listen to. This is one case where a transcript is probably more effective. Although it’s a huge deal that he is there testifying. From all accounts the guy is a conservative icon.
After my post, I found out that he has a stutter or some other speech impediment, so he slows down to control it. I feel bad about it now. But it was still very slow going.
Maybe that’s why they didn’t put him on the supreme court. He was on the shortlist during the bush years
Not like he has to ask questions to be a judge on the SCOTUS. Hell, Thomas went like 8 years without saying a word and has had other stretches where he never asks a single question.
