Cuomo’s platform is to massively cut taxes (no taxes on tips, remove city income tax on low income individuals, cut property tax by about 50%), massively increase spending on things like healthcare, while complying with the mandated balanced budget. I don’t know his position on giving free unicorns to all residents. It’s insane that the establishment is supporting him.
That’s almost enough to make me sufficiently curious to go see what’s wrong with the other primary candidates.
Is it as simple as “support Cuomo because he has the best chance of defeating Eric Adams”, or are the alternatives sufficiently bad that Cuomo is actually the least evil viable candidate?
According to some random people on reddit, Adams is the most pro-housing candidate.
unfortunately, he’s also corrupt AF
NY Post is going after Mamdani because he wants the city to support trans healthcare. Plus he’s a socialist who might support removing the city income tax on poor people and spending more on healthcare and education.
Seems Mamdani has smoked Cuomo
Apparently Cuomo is angling a possible run as an independent to try to create a centrist molester/rapist/sex pest coalition
Looks to me like this is mainly about a rejection of older D candidates that have lost touch with the average D voter.
Ds need fresh blood, and Cuomo and Adams are definitely not it.
Haven’t really made up my mind on Mamdani, but from what I have read he seems to have put some serious shoe leather on this campaign vs Adams/Cuomo, which can be a big factor in local races.
Rent control is stupid
So he says he wants rent control and more housing at the same time. Those two things don’t go together.
It’s just like saying you’re going to freeze premium increases in California while also expecting more insurers to move into the state.
NYC seems to have some pretty odd rental rules in terms of rent controlled and rent stabilised housing.
I do wonder if his comments are more about rent control as it pertains to section 8 housing, given that they are being funded by taxpayer money.
Some of his economic comments don’t stack up well (par for the course for socialists in many countries).
Now he says he wants to tax “whiter” neighborhoods more. He’s also stated that he wants to defund the police.
Mamdani has no clue what he’s doing.
Crime in NYC has risen steadily. They try to claim it’s going down, because they don’t report on a lot of the crimes anymore. They just ignore them. It’s not safe to ride the subway at night anymore. Streets aren’t safe.
I have a lot of family who live or recently lived in NYC. The ones who left keep saying how happy they are to have left. The ones still there complain about how terrible things have gotten over the past few years.
Mamdani will make things worse. Adams isn’t much better. At this point, if I lived in NYC, I’d be supporting Sliwa, because safety should be the main concern.
how did the Republicans wind up not having a serious primary?

nation’s largest city can’t find a qualified candidate

The only silver lining so far is that Ackman is probably going to eat some serious crow.
That dude is really annoying.
There are qualifications? I’d like to know them.
Breathing, some minimum age, and I think that is it.
