I’ll be taking my mini-weekend vacations back home throughout the year, I’ve got two alread planned; one for fishing with my BIL, one where I’m doing a family fish fry with my aunts 40-50year old recipe.
May-24 weekend, I’m taking three students to northern ontario fishing. Crown land camping, out of cell phone range. nice. I generally do a four day trip on labour day weekend as well, that’s up in the air.
My spouse kinda let it drop that they hadn’t booked a week vacation at lake up north like we normally do.They didn’t lke the $4k price. So I guess I got voted off the summer vacation island. Instead I think we’ll do a long weekend at Gananoque. Cutest little town in eastern ontario.
I saw on my local TV news that Spirit was “voted” “best” “airline.” By whom? No idea. WalletHub takes the credit. Possibly someone paid by Spirit Airlines. The criteria? No idea.
Methodology:
To this end, we evaluated the 9 largest national airlines as well as two regional carriers (that report to the Department of Transportation because they have at least 1 percent of total domestic scheduled-service passenger revenues) in terms of 16 key metrics across four major categories: 1) Baggage and departures, 2) Animal Incidents 3) In-flight comfort and cost and 4) Safety.
?? to bolded?
Spirit got 5 points for not allowing pets, hence no incidents.
This summer, looks like we are heading back to Maui. I’m going through IPO readiness, my wife is going through what is essentially a huge audit at work. Just burned out and want something relaxing and familiar.
I have enough points for one flight and the rental car, so I’ll only pay for one ticket and rent a condo.
The Belmond MP experience was worth every $$$. Truly exceeded my expectations. We did circuit 3 via a Belmond private tour and it was excellent. Wasn’t congested at all.
We also had drinks at the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge and found the Paddington figure in Aguas Calientes.
Was really impressed with MP and the landscapes. The cloud forest is very impressive.
When I read this I pictured you waltzing into your local public library with a book and a bottle of wine. They should let you do that like 1 night a week imo.
Glad you enjoyed it. I have been privileged to visit MP four times and enjoyed it every time. It is much busier now than in the 1980s when I first visited (less tourism/fear of Sendero Luminoso) but is still fantastic).
They really have done a grest job maintaining it. My wife talked to the guide a lot about this as she still had the memories of visiting the pyramids in Egypt around 25Y ago. It was like night and day in her view.
I am literally staying about 200’ from that place! If we were on Alaskan, I could totally make this happen. Alas, we are on United and connecting through Denver.
We have our 10-year wedding anniversary next year so after some discussions we have started planning a trip to the Salt Flats (Uyuni) in Bolivia. My wife has never been and it does look to be a super interesting place in April. We will also get to see La Paz which I have always wanted to see in person.
Tip for La Paz airport. Don’t get alarmed if your plane hasn’t gotten airborne on takeoff after a minute. Often takes 90 seconds because of the altitude. Also walk slowly to the airport terminal after you land.
Got a message from Budget: “Just confirming your rental pick up tomorrow…”
WTF? I’m picking it up in JUNE!
So, tried to modify that. But Budget has decided to cash in on the W.C. and wanted $900 for ONE DAY ONLY. I needed the car for six days.
OK, so I checked all my prior e-mails, and stupid me I DID make the reservation for tomorrow.
Canceled that.
We are staying in Newport RI, to get away from the WC financial madness (ENG playing when we arrive), and renting a car there starting a few days later, since we won’t need the car there. Taking a plane to BOS, taking a train to Providence/Newport, renting a car to Maryland for a wedding.
A true “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles” vacation, which I hope will be better than sitting through that movie ever again. Keep your “National Treasure,” Canada.
Bought AMTRAK tickets that will pass right by the Stadium about 15 minutes before gametime.
It doesn’t stop, though. Might be some delays on the track due to the match, though.
Need an Uber from Kingston to Newport. A couple of breweries already “on tap” for the trip.
I’m heading to NYC next week for a short personal trip. Hang out with my cousin and his family, and if any of you want to connect for a coffee, lunch, beer, or a walk in the park, let me know.
