I know! The actor for Mat was great. Hopefully he’s ok IRL, but the person filling his shoes is going to have a tough time.
That explains a bit, if true. He was probably the highlight of the Two Rivers cast, to me.
Oh yeah, didn’t Loial have to open them to begin with? Think that was the whole point of asking him to come originally, so now it’s weird that he’s just there tagging along. There’s been no backstory fill I’ve caught for several ogier things that aren’t terribly important, but mainly just neat. Won’t spoil yet as the next episode has potential to fill in some of these gaps.
Yeah, a lot of people online have expressed that same sentiment.
I can’t remember if Moiraine could find the leaf on her own or if Loial had to teach her. But I think for some reason Ogier are able to navigate the ways and not get lost. At least in the books I think that was the main reason he came along. Although in the books there was much more discussion about the dangers of the ways (and why no one uses them anymore).
Moiraine knew how to open the waygates in the book.
The reason they needed an Ogier along is that all the guidings in the ways are written in Ogier script. (In the books, the male Aes Sedai originally grew the ways for the Ogier as a way to travel between their stedding without having to risk themselves in the frequently violent world-at-large.)
Others who use the ways in the books had other various means of translating the Ogier script to find the correct paths to travel.
Yeah yeah. This rings all the bells, thx.

I found episode 7 to be annoying. The intro fight scene was pretty cool, but I had no idea of the relevance and they didn’t explain to nearly the end.
The time in the ways was tedious, all I saw was a bunch of torches in the dark.
I have a hard time believing the romance stories right now.
I was happy to see an appearance from Min.
At least they brought back the fever dream. And I’m looking forward to seeing the Aiel when they enter the story in force. Fighting multiple opponents while in labor is badass!
Regarding the ways…it worked on a good 4K display. I am a little disappointed that they made the Fainspotting activity too easy post-ways.
Other plot points…well, episode 6 is where the deviations from the book became too distracting from me. That being said, considering how close they made Egwene and Rand at the start (and how the showrunners are apparently not relying on subtlety), they did need to introduce a wedge to explain how Rand and Egwene move apart later in the series (if they retain that aspect of the story).
Was awesome. Great introduction to the Maidens. I believe they organized it this way because again, in the books we know who the dragon is waaaaay earlier. Tam’s rambling in the woods the night of the raid was in the first few chapters and they didn’t want to give it away so early, so it makes sense plotwise for the series.
A few important tactical points were made:
Trollocs are using the ways.
Nynaeve is embracing the power a bit.
Rand can channel (even though this wasn’t revealed until the end).
I openly reacted to realizing who she was, which made my wife ask a bunch of questions I didn’t want to have to answer yet. I left it at “she’s important”.
Same. Actors don’t look comfortable with them.
Although, the author frequently juxtaposes a romantic event by one of the male characters with some inner thought about how one of the other two is better with women because of how awkward they felt at the time. I took it as comic relief while reading. I doubt they’re actively trying to capture this on screen, but it happens a lot in the books.
I hope the fight choreography continues to be as good. I was impressed with this one.
Ok, so only like the first 3 minutes is about the fight. Still cool though.
This is so bad
Ok, episode 8 was amazing. I will watch it multiple times…
The final scene was awesome. So excited for next season
I think I need to watch it again. It go so far away from the book that I was pretty distracted.
Very "Star Wars"ian editing on the final battle, with frequent cuts between concurrent scenes. It was distracting to me to try to understand the dual battle of the bad-bad guy who was with Moiraine IRL and in Rand’s dreams.
So Moiraine got “stilled” (got her white swirlies taken away). Rand runs away because he’s worried that the madness will eventually cause him to hurt his friends (mainly Egwene I guess). Lan and Nyneave was a hit it and quit it situation, I guess. Loial, it was nice knowing you, Mr Ogre. Why did the baddies leave Perrin alive? that made no sense. The best part IMHO was the White Tower drop out chick giving up her life for her city.
Yeah…i need a breakdown of this to make sure I wasn’t making stuff up in my head. Seemed enormously different from what I remember.
