What did you do this weekend?

Jeff Ruby’s is good. We ate at that same location for my birthday a couple months back.

Yeah, I haven’t been to the one y’all are talking about but both The Precinct and Carlo & Johnny are great so I’m sure the one you’re talking about is good too.

My oldest brother and I crawled through the charred shell of our childhood home before demolition starts in a couple of days. We spent several minutes looking at the place where our dad died near the back door. We pulled a handful of stuff out of the house, which will probably end up in the garbage, but it’s our last chance. Definitely some bittersweet moments.

Wow. So sorry you’re going through this.

i went camping. weather was awesome. warm and dry, cooler at night (45-52 overnight). heard the pack of coyotes howling crazy once each night sometime btw midnight and 4am. it was something!

not sure I am a camping person, but I go along with it

Tailgated on Sunday AM, then watched the Falcons get their butt kicked.

Saturday included a long walk with the dog, watching soccer, and doing tailgate prep. Smoked 2 turkey breasts and made sandwiches for the tailgate. Made some tater salad. Made some stuffing for spicy sausage bread, which I then baked on Sunday AM.

More quilting from me. Plus torturing my oldest son to study for his math test.

Thanks. The whole thing is still surreal. When looking at a couple of non-soot covered places, my brother and I were trying to remember how our dad’s body was positioned when discovered. (Photos were shown at the trial, but I tried not to look at ones including his face altogether, and the others not too closely.) I found the charred remains of a wooden train I’d made in high school wood shop. I brought it home, but it’s crumbling apart, and the smell of smoke is still unsettling, so I’ll probably just throw it away. It was disappointing to see that someone had been going through stuff in the house since the last time we’d been in there (drawers were open, some broken dishes and figurines scattered about), but everything is destined for the landfill anyway, I suppose. There were cobwebs on some of the open drawers, so unlikely it was the abatement guys from last week. As siblings are wont to do, we made jokes and shared memories, so it wasn’t totally a somber affair. I’m really glad I have a good relationship with my siblings.

I rented a small skid steer to level/spread out a huge mound of dirt and stone in my yard - eventually I’ll be putting a layer of dirt and sod over it. That little thing could move some earth! T-roy like big machine!

I am letting the ground settle before putting down sod. I also screwed two pallets together, weighed it down with big stones that were dug up, and chained them to the back of my lawn tractor to help spread and even out the ground even more. That is also fun!

I’ve hopes of something similar but need to wait until there’s no dog.

Child #1 came over after work and spent the weekend here. Nice to visit with them for a bit.

Sunday - Child #3 and Child #4 turned 21. We went hiking in our favorite state park, then got pizza and they watched … whatever they watched. Also, since they’re 21 we took them so they could legally buy alcohol. One child drank a little. One child … drank more than a little. Not to “throwing up” stage, but we’re going to see if they don’t get hangovers like Mrs. Hoffman doesn’t.

friday was tv shows w the lady

sat was family weekend and football game at daughter’s college. came home to a gathering w friends for a couple hrs.

Saturday - Took T-2 to Airport, Golf tournament with a buddy, gave dog a quick bath, and Natural Bridge History Tour w/ gf
Sunday - Rented a tiller, Watched some football w gf, picked up T-2 from airport
All weekend - putting up curtains and curtain rods, making nice towel hangers in the bathrooms (previous owner just did the stick-it-on-the-wall-with-this-cheap-plastic-thingy).

Had a wedding shower for a coworker of wife on Sunday. I did most of the prep work (not food, just cleaning the house) for most of the week.
While doing these chores, I had the idea of creating a list of things that have to be done to host a party. I’ll be making that list off and on for the next couple of weeks until we host a baby shower. My wife made a list but it was not chronological. Sunday morning I noticed that my pool patio was quite dusty. Pushing a broom is hard work, but I didn’t want to dirty everything by hosing down and cleaning the dirt-spray off the furniture. So, that has to be done first, not after I’ve cleaned the furniture. All about working more smarter and less harder.

Did my weekly volunteering for over a thousand kids and families on Saturday.

Wow, you got JFG beat by a factor of 2.5.

Well, they’re not MY kids.
