2025 was fine for 75% of us personally, but bad/terrible for the country by 48% of respondents.
Most people just repeat whatever garbage they are fed by media
what is good for me personally? strictly retirement funding? or is concern for others and their well being (outside my household) allowed as a consideration?
I think good for you personally doesn’t include concern for others.
This attitude is part of our problem as a society imo. No offense intended, just different worldviews I think.
What do you see/hear when you leave your house that’s better/worse than it was a year ago? This doesn’t mean that you see 50% of things are worse now, but that 50% of people saw some noticeable increase in crappy stuff.
That’s the thing. I don’t leave my house.
I think most Dems/Repub will say “good/bad” for country related to whether or not their guy is Prez.
Also agree with Funemployed that media–social and news outlets; not to mention AI posting–is a strong influence on people’s perception of what’s “going on” elsewhere.
so, to be clear, i don’t have issues like “i had a great meal and I know somewhere others don’t have enough so it pains me.” so i can enjoy things for me without turning on every 5th order impact and evaluating it.
but your wording suggests “i got this house bc I killed the guy who lived in it before, yay me!” is valid. in the extreme, sure. but still.
someone promising me lower taxes by $1000 while making my actual neighbors - who i really like and whose pressence in my life I value at more than $1000 - live in fear for their lives/existences bc they don’t look like me - you seem to think that’s a win for me personally?
Seems like a stupid poll not worthy of being posted, unless to pick it apart for being stupidly written to result in stupid answers and not taken seriously
But, that’s just me personally.
do you get a dollar for each time you say stupid, or are you doing it gratis
well, is your contention that somehow this poll is under-representing your neighbors?
Under the table, so I don’t have to declare it.

Uh-oh.
I can see how things are good for me personally, but bad for the country….
2025 was an amazing year for me in terms of financial returns. On the other hand it was a really poor year for my country where our sovereignty is under threat and the actions that Trump is taking are destabilizing the world and the economy creating a lot of long term risk for me and the world.
More risk is good for actuaries!
i am sure the neighbors were represented in their own response.
I’m saying I value within “good for me personally” as how others are being treated as there are ways they could be treated that make me feel shitty, personally. You seem immune from such calculation for impact on others based on the inquiry and follow up wording
That graph is a lot like how people view the job Congress does vs. the job their Representative/Senator is doing. The only difference is that people think Congress as a whole completely sucks ass, whereas that graph just suggests the country was vaguely worse off before the usual partisan split.
Looks accurate.
I think 2025 was a bad year because, for example, we imprisoned hundreds of innocent men in a foreign torture prison for no reason.
I was not sent to the torture prison though, so that was nice.
I think you’re one of the only people who got the point
I think that there are additional questions to be asked to get at what you’re looking at.
The two graphs in the OP, IMO, are getting at two ends of a particular spectrum. The “things related to me”, as I’ve seen it used in other places, is “is my financial status today better or worse than before”. And some elements of racial tension will very likely play into this assessment.
The latter question is about the situation overall . . . and there are many whose answer to this question is going to be highly correlated to the “personal question”.
Things relating to your immediate neighbors are different questions that I agree should also be asked, but aren’t.
