I expected White as well as Berhalter. They have been a tremendous combo for the Whitecaps. White is a scoring machine but maybe considered to be old?
Gee, I wonder what Reyna’s parents have on Poch?
I thought we always developed great goalies? None playing in Europe?
Not always anymore. More likely: the rest of the world has caught up.
The best social media content for keeper training now comes from Europe. My kids all play keeper and the training in the academies is hard to come by around here. Have to seek out keeper training from the few who do it in the area.
Also, you have to be a little nuts to be a keeper… so maybe the focus on mental well-being has shrunk the potential keeper talent pool ![]()
Short answer: No.
Again, their 'depth" is nothing like the top teams in the world, where starters on top club teams are on the bench of their National sides or not even making the squad. That is depth.
The USMNT backups might not be a huge step down, but the first team is already a step down.
Quarterfinals would be a surprise. That would require bad luck to their opponents.
All I know is that the US and Mexico will have no teams in their Groups with FIFA rankings in the top 20 whereas Canada will probably have two top-20 teams. If I were a conspiracist I might think Trump and Infantino found a way to fix the draw to punish Canada.
US and Mexico will go through to the next round as a result and Canada won’t.
Woof
That’s what I’ve been saying about soccer my whole life!
That the tickets are too expensive for a meaningless match?
Me too, but i say that for most sports.
People PAY to see this crap?!?!
USA lose again, but the top men think they’re just a few tweaks away.
No, you actually have to play harder if you can.
Pretty easy Group, should take second and maybe play half the Iran team in the knockout.
But sheesh, so lackadaisical.
And now, down a striker.
This guy gets it:
Not noted, but I think not having consequential matches has led to the lethargic performances. “We’re already in, so I think I’ll take it easy.”
Again, this is the best team in USMNT history, but, again, they have not kept up with other top teams whose talent pools, from birth, are not competing against other sports.
Seems like a lot of work to conclude that the USMNT don’t have much of a chance.
I don’t think you don’t care. I just think there were no consequences to how anyone played, being a host.
Like being in MLS.
Also, those were much better teams than the USMNT that played. Poch needs to create a better team than those that played. Dest wasn’t there. Adams wasn’t there. Agyemang will be out, replaceable though.
