So basically every district is just gonna be a “safe” district, so we might as well not even have elections.
(Eyeroll and comment not directed at you personally.)
Would it take a Constitutional amendment to break gerrymandering and have districts that actually make nonpartisan sense?

Prop 50 at least expires in 2030 at which time redistricting reverts to something that is fair.
The SCOTUS decisions enshrining gerrymandering were not unanimous, imagine a world in which they had ruled against it.

It would probably take a constitutional amendment to be enforceable in all 50 states given the State’s latitude in running its elections as outlined in the Constitution now.
You’d think a country that claims it’s all about freedom would like to have free and fair elections. Clearly it doesn’t.
ETA: is there really all that much difference between totalitarian regimes that only allow one party to run for election and a country that officially rigs elections so only one party can win?
It’s a problem. It’s a big problem if one side gets to rig it so much they have single party rule with non hope of breaking it.
I’ve seen numerous swings in my lifetime where it looked like either the Republican or Democratic Party were dead and buried only to make a come back a few short years later.
No idea if this is true, but would be funny to watch Cuomo get wiped in another primary.
Even with the GOP gerrymandering going on, it definitely looks like the Rs are going to lose their Congressional majority in the 2026 mid-terms.
Cost of living is really biting down hard and Trump is really not helping himself by trying to gaslight his voters.
R’s will most likely lose their majority in the House.
Looking at who’s up for the Senate, however, I think 50-50 (+ JD as a tiebreaker) is a very realistic possibility.
I think that even the Senate is in play now for the Ds if they concentrate on cost of living.
That spike on the right (64%) is likely going to get worse by the mid-terms.
At the risk of reading too much into special elections, another big upset by a Democrat:

We’ll take all the good news we can get at this point.
GOP is realising Trump is going to make them lose their seats if they don’t change tack.
This is going to blow back big time on the GOP
While I do think Gisler is an advocate, I think his campaign pounded issues on affordability and health care. I think those issues resonated with the community that has indeed voted very red in past elections including the last.
D’s need to keep pounding cost of living and health care cost increases while Trump is busy calling affordability a hoax or saying that costs are down.
I hope they do lapse. Benefits disproportionately going to subsidize people who elected the senators / reps who want to cut it all down. Democrats need to stop patronizing people who don’t even vote for them.
Trump is now underwater in pretty much all key issues
He is losing his base as well.
Remember: the Dems have a remarkable history of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

I complain about Democrats often having crappy messaging, but this is nicely direct.
