United States Congressional Election 2026

For the race I’m thinking of, one of the candidates has, in later activities, been proven to have been an objectively bad option. The other candidate, who won, was actually a not-horrible Senator.

In the governor race here in particular, at least Acton’s commercials try to say why Ramasmarmy sucks. Vifake’s commercials are pure over-the-top mud slinging.

Cthulhu is having to rework his slogan. Talk about being outflanked.

Cuz he finds the kids so fast?

That’s what he’s going for but the wording is weird. Speaking of wording:

Tuberville to stay on the ballot in AL because only the Republican party has the ability to decide whether or not he is eligible, not the court.

I assume that after Tuberville wins, the outcome of a subsequent challenge to his eligibility will depend on how many Alabama fans there are on the Alabama Supreme Court, versus Auburn fans.

FWIW, John Wahl, the R candidate for Lieutenant Governor, is also having his eligibility questioned over residence issues. I don’t see where (or if) he went to college.

FWIW² if both Tuberville and Wahl were found ineligible, President Pro-Tem of the Alabama Senate would be next in the order of succession.

Seems perfectly understandable that one would prefer not to live in Alabama.
But, Florida instead??

Isn’t there an actual statute in AL regarding who can be governor, which, by extension, should be used to determine who can be on the ballot, lest there be a shit election?

I don’t see how the GOP can decide who’s eligible to run for governor. They can decide who’s eligible to be in their primary, sure.

In July, Circuit Judge Brook Reid found that the court “does not have jurisdiction over the sole claim of quo warranto at this time.” Quo warranto is defined as a person’s right to hold a public or corporate office.

So, does this mean they can only be called in when someone is actually elected to office?

My recollection (out getting revaxxed, so I’m not going to look it up) is that it’s a constitutional provision regarding minimum residence requirements as a condition for eligibility to hold office.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s nothing saying they can’t run.

(I believe there’s an analogous weakness in the US Constitution regarding certain eligibility requirements vs running, which we may learn more of in the next couple of years.)

Promise or a threat?

Yeah, I saw this and forgot the distinction between on the ballot vs in office. I thought the ASC had totally abdicated all responsibility. Wahl seems cut and dried that he isn’t eligible to hold office under residency rules. That f’er also printed his own ID to vote. Tuberville is only marginally more likely to be eligible. It will be interesting to see what happens post election.

Yeah, I sure as fuck wouldn’t want to go to that drop box… and if I had to, I wouldn’t feel comfortable until I checked online to see that my ballot was counted.

I only have one legal drop box for my vote. And I definitely would still deposit my vote through that, but if I were Hispanic I’m not sure I’d feel as OK being near them.

lol

I registered to vote yesterday
