B18, you should get a reasonable seat
I think youāre likely good, I got something close to that recently and had zero issues. Still some empty rows, just a little further back.
My wife flew this week with a C2 position and got an aisle seat, though it was near the very back.
nice nice. with C2 iād definitely upgrade though.
I get what youāre saying, and I get what Lucy is saying and in my experience⦠it depends.
I could never study at an airport when I was taking exams. Ever. During a three-hour layover Iād get like 5 or possibly on a good day 10 minutes worth of studying done despite trying the whole time. Itās just way too distracting.
Walking⦠totally depends on the airport, and possibly also your knowledge of it. I canāt walk for exercise at DFW⦠itās too bleeping crowded everywhere you turn. But I can walk at ATL or CVG no problem.
I can usually post on GoA or do todayās Quordle or check Facebook. Iām guessing Iām doing those things a little slower than I would at home though. And in a less comfortable seat.
And some airports are more pleasant than others. Itās beautiful to walk through SLC and see all the mountains. But their bathrooms suck. (Or maybe sucked⦠I heard they were redoing them and havenāt been through that airport in a while.) DTW is pleasant to walk through and has good bathrooms (as public restrooms go, anyway), but itās slow to get from one end to the other if youāre in a hurry.
LHR has weird time-based restrictions on when you can be in various parts on the airport based on how soon your flight will be boarding meaning that you essentially have to wait in line to check in like three distinct times for one flight. Or they did last time I flew out of there which was a while ago.
Got an aisle seat. It was starting to become slim pickings. If im ever higher than b18 i might pay to upgrade in the future
The overheads are high in southwest. I had a really hard time lifting my backpack with the 2 laptops and nobody offered to help me. NOBODY
If only they knew you were the #1 AO alt-adjusted poster.
The nice man sitting behind me helped get my bag down for me upon arrival. That part is easier though
Yes but that qualifier went away long ago. I was just number one.
On here its twig and im cool with that.
I got assigned B15 for my flight tomorrow, and thatās with Early Bird! So Iām burning one of the four annual upgrades I get with my SW credit card. Now in A8. Iād probably be fine at B15 but I have two credits remaining this year so why not burn one?
Wow i never got a b spot with early bird. Sounds like i was possibly lucky getting b18 without it.
Did you book last minute or something for early bird to kinda suck?
Yeah im guessing b15 would be okay
4 free annual upgrades is sweet. I need to think about a sw credit card
I booked this Aug 25, so youād think Iād be pretty far up the Early Bird list!
The card is $149/yr, but you get a $75 SW credit, so really more like $74/yr. Plus the four upgrades and a free 7,500 miles per year. Itās not a huge win but I think itās worth it.
If you do want one, I think I can send you a referral link that gets us both an extra 10k miles or something like that???
I sprung for lounge access!!!
Hi klass and - thatās how I roll!!!
Yeah thats really strange in booking 2 months in advance. Are we super sure there are no screwups in how early bird is assigned? That just sound impossible.
Hmmm not sure i want a credit card with an annual fee. Will think about it.
So, the A List folks get first dibs. And then I think anyone who bought the Biz tickets or the Any Time tickets will get priority over me - even though I got Early Bird, Iām on the cheap Wanna Get Away ticket.
Jeez, this is giving me flashbacks to 2019 when I was flying twice a month on United and knew every stupid rule about these type of things.
ETA: but if Early Bird got me just B15, why did they let me buy up to A8 for $40? That seems kind of odd, no?
This all seems strange. I assume the majority of people get wanna get away.
Also seems you got charged more here than you should have been. I think its $40 to upgrade to a low A number even without the early bird. So youre essentially paying twice for this low number. That would piss me off a bit
I didnt have early bird and it said i can upgrade for as little as $40 for the low A number. I didnt check further if it was in fact $40 since i didnt do it but i think it likely was
Southwest needs to do away with open seating which in reality isnt open seating and let people pick seats like normal airlines
Yeah, I did basically double pay. Itās such a weird game. Should I skip early bird, and pay the $40 if I get a crappy assignment? I might burn through my four āfreeā passes if I do that, and beyond that itās $40 vs $20 for early bird.
Normally Iād be fine paying $20 for a decent seat vs $40 for A1-A15, but this is now twice that early bird left me in the mid B tier.
I think I still prefer seat selection, though the carriers are making that worse. Cheap seats are way in the back, if you want to be seated in the front half of economy thatās now extra.
Itās not a huge deal, I donāt travel nearly as much as I used to. And for vacation, I just pay more for everything to minimize hassle.
