I don’t really understand the point in screening him for dementia. What are you gonna do? Tell Jr to have grandpa move in so you can keep a close eye on him?
My wife, brother-in-law, and I are pretty sure my mother-in-law is in the early stages of dementia.
MIL is the kind of person who reacts extremely negatively if you suggest anything is wrong with her.
If she were to undergo screening for dementia and had a medical professional inform her that she was starting to experience the condition, there’s a teeny-tiny chance she might modify her behaviors, etc.
My late father, before his dementia got bad, was more willing to accept help and adopt strategies to cope after being presented with objective evidence that his mind wasn’t what it once was.
During the sub-acute (followup) period of stroke recovery of up to 6 months following, it’s normal to conduct regular cognitive assessments for conditions including dementia. After some time, screenings are reduced in frequency, though being elderly might mean they still happen regularly.
My grandmother’s second husband developed Alzheimer’s. He had been a scientist when he was younger, and for a time understood what was happening and would regularly ask her how could she love an idiot.
There was also a period of time when he understood that they were living together, but didn’t remember getting married, so would propose to her every single day. They had been close friends before their original spouses died, and I strongly suspect that he had been in love with her for decades.
In theory, having a president in the early stages of dementia would put their advisors and the cabinet on notice to watch out for 25th Amendment concerns.
Of course, in the stupidest reality that we seem to be living through…
Eh, I only see the 25th at the point that POTUS can’t keep it together. Like, babbling embarrassing admissions about other powerful people, being virtually unable to speak words at all.
Basically, once he’s no longer useful. A feeble-minded fool is useful.
Yeah, there’s already a long history of people within the admin and also among his voters of being more than willing to explain away any mental or other lapses. I don’t see that changing, regardless of how bad he becomes. And if he gets really bad, he’ll be kept away from cameras, phones, and any trips.
Hmm. Maybe some revisionist history? It depends on who you’re talking about. It was apparent that Biden had declined and it was discussed here and in the press, but officially ignored by the D’s in power. But it really wasn’t clear, at least to me, how bad he had declined until the debate. I don’t know about others here, but I have to say the debate was a big shock to me. And at that point any covering up for him mainly stopped at that point. I don’t expect that to stop ever with Trump.
