Legal Eagle has chimed in:
For those leery of watching subversive videos (/r), there is good news and bad news. The bad news is that POTUS cannot break the law and since itâs a SCOTUS declaration, there is no mechanic available to alter this condition short of a constitutional convention. Congress can not very well write a new law that violates the Constitution. And that is decided byâŚdrum rollâŚSCOTUS. SO GRAB YOUR ANKLES.
The good news is the 2024 election isnât all that important now. We can all relax on that front. Itâs no longer if democracy dies, itâs when. The fuse is lit and itâs just a matter of time before some whack job is elected. Could be soon, I hear.
Oh well, it was a helluva run. I gotta run now. I signed up for a Mandarin language course at the local CC.
any good theories as to why evangelicals want trump as king? i have my own but im interested in hearing from an american perspective.
the royal family has little to no power in England. itâs just for show.
They think he will give them what they want (no abortions, Christian prayer in schools, etc.), and lib tears.
Maybe they think he is the antichrist and they want to usher in the end times and Armageddon.
I believe it is mostly explained by whether or not you think the chief executive requires significant power, or not. One camp holds that only a strong exec can manage the country. Legislative change is to slow in a world with instant news. The other camp focuses on balancing power, even if it means the nation can be quite slow to react.
Itâs an interesting question. For instance, Sometimes I think it is impossible for us to deal with climate change with the current structure. Maybe thatâs right, maybe it isnât. But it is a serious question.
i get thats what they want but why does trump naturally and so easily emerge as the leader of this movement?
He says things people want to believe, and that group tends to question less from the leaders that say the things they want to hear?
Makes libs cry more so than other leaders.
Othersâ (ânon-believersâ of their particular religion) unhappiness validates their righteousness.
They think abortions and same sex marriage should be illegal. They think prayer and the Ten Commandments and teaching the Bible should be mandatory in schools.
Iâm sure there are people who would rather live in a dictatorship which does those things than live in a democracy that doesnât. (I may even be related to people who would make that choice.) If giving Trump more power will accomplish the things they want, they consider it a net positive trade.
Its worse than that. They re-write the laws to favour themselves.
A little Fourth of July satire:
I have at times wondered if Donald Trump might be the Antichrist.
Youâre not the only one whoâs suggested that thought.
Oh I know. I think I first brought it up in 2016 and it was likely not original then.
I donât believe in any of that stuff, but he really does check a lot of the boxes
Same⌠well⌠Iâm not really sure what I believe to be honest. But if there is an Antichrist it sure seems like Trump might be the guy.
My variant was that the Cubs had finally won the World Series in 2016, a sure sign that we had entered the End Times, and thus the President elected must surely be the Antichrist.
Solid logic. Strenuously approve.
