And why that natters for all - unless they come out and say emergency departments no longer have to treat everyone, then folks thrown off medicaid will go uninsured, receive care through the ED, and when not paid the provider will increase cost on those paying. So assume they soon say “payment required in advance if treatment” is legal and poor people will just die ---

Current autism rates among 8 year olds (so reflecting the ‘epidemic’ increase that is at least partially better diagnoses, but not reflecting more mild cases that are diagnosed later in life) is something like 3.8%. Statistics on domestic violence vary based on data collection method, but it is far more common, with most sources agreeing that north of 25% of women are victims of domestic violence at some point during their lives. Trump has belittled domestic violence victims recently, and is now going to make an announcement about autism that apparently will blame, in large part, the mothers. ---

Pretty clear messaging on Trump’s autism press conference. **Arthur Caplan, the founding head of the division of medical ethics at N.Y.U. Grossman School of Medicine, wrote: “The announcement on autism was the saddest display of a lack of evidence, rumors, recyling old myths, lousy advice, outright lies and dangerous advice I have ever witnessed by anyone in authority in the world claiming to know anything about science.”** ---
