A catalfaque is the framework to support a coffin while on display, as in while lying in state. The catalfaque used in the US capitol for those lying in state was originally built for Lincoln.

One of the suggestions for the name of Minnesota was Washington.

[https://www.startribune.com/mnisota-mni-sota-dakota-language-minnesota-river-state-name/600114154/](https://www.startribune.com/mnisota-mni-sota-dakota-language-minnesota-river-state-name/600114154/)

> [@](#):
>
> Mní Sota would take on new significance in 1846, when the first bill to [create the “Minasota” Territory](https://www.google.com/books/edition/A_History_of_Minnesota/2SYUAAAAYAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=%22minasota%22+1847&pg=PA235&printsec=frontcover) was introduced to Congress by Wisconsin Territorial Delegate Morgan Martin.
>
> Not everyone was sold on the idea. The chairman of the Committee on Territories, a representative from Illinois, [amended the bill to instead call](https://www.congress.gov/29/llhb/H.R.568v1.pdf) the new territory “Itaska.” Itasca is [derived from the Latin words](http://startribune.com/does-the-mississippi-river-really-start-in-minnesota-s-tiny-lake-itasca/508757631/?refresh=true) for “truth” and “head,” referring to the Mississippi River headwaters. Other representatives suggested “Jackson,” “ **Washington** ” and “Chippewa,” according to the 1908 book “Minnesota in Three Centuries.”
>
> The House of Representatives ultimately passed the bill with the name “Minnesota,” spelled as it is today, but it died in the Senate, according to [Folwell’s history](https://books.google.com/books?id=2SYUAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA235&lpg=PA235#v=onepage&q&f=false). A later attempt [succeeded in 1849](https://www.sos.state.mn.us/media/2297/organicact.pdf), however, and the Minnesota Territory was born. The state, established in 1858, took the same name.

Interesting.

I’ve been on a Chippewa reservation in Wisconsin near the UP. Didn’t realize Chippewa extended into Minnesota.

I wonder what Washington state would have selected if “Washington” was already taken.

My thought, too. Perhaps, they would’ve gone with “Columbia, DW”

I’m laughing at the PC storm we’d be witnessing if the state had been called “Jackson”.

Has any state/commonwealth ever changed it’s named after becoming a state?

Other than to become a new state (such as Maine breaking off from Massachusetts or Kentucky and later West Virginia breaking off from Virginia) I think Rhode Island is the only one.

And that was pretty trivial.

1790 - 2020: State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

2020 - present: State of Rhode Island

Many people know that the theme song to the tv show **The Big Bang Theory** was performed by Canadian rock band Barenaked Ladies.

But do you know who performs the theme song to the spinoff show **Young Sheldon**? {it goes…“I Am a Mighty Little Man”}

In my house it is NYE tradition to make [Fleischküchlein](https://archive.is/dvRWK#selection-1383.0-1385.0)…which is dough filled with hamburger, onion, and raSINS!!! …j/k no raisins…just a meat mixture in dough and deep fried.

This year, for a variety of reasons, I won’t be making it. 😢
