Due to the change in DST, ToT is now in the afternoon (for a little while at least).

Reminds me, when I was young I went to work with a friend, picking up rocks at a construction site with his grandfather. Lunch time came, and he opened a can of SPAM, grabbed a fork and ate the whole thing. I think it was that and a piece of fruit, that was his lunch.

And it took them forever to move it from the last Sunday in October to the First Sunday in November. Seemed like they moved the spring date once or twice while leaving the fall date alone.

And of course, its even worse if you have some electronics that has it programmed in from before the changes.

My official Parenting Plan refers to “Halloween / Beggars Night”, but I’d never heard of Beggars Night before getting divorced with a kiddo. Now I know what it means.

Does being divorced, having a kid, or “being divorced and having a kid “ have anything to do with your new found knowledge or are they just life-reference points? …kind of like how I’ll always remember that the Brewers went to the World Series in 1982 because that’s the year we moved to MN.

As I mentioned , it’s in the parenting plan required to be filed with the state.

There’s a list of holidays and you select which ones the child observes (we observe Thanksgiving and Christmas, but not Diwali or Hanukkah, for example) and the option to add ones not listed. And which years the child is with which parent. Holidays override normal parenting time stuff. Like for example I get Mini Me every Thursday but since it’s her dad’s year for Halloween, I am sans Mini Me right now, despite today being Thursday.

But the choice for Halloween in the Parenting Plan document was actually “Halloween / Beggar’s Night”. Seeing it in the list that way was my first exposure to the term “Beggar’s Night”.

So yes, _because_ “divorced with kid”.

Can you tick all of the above so your kid can have lots of holidays? (signed, someone’s kid).

Heh… it just dictates parenting time and in most cases they alternate years other than Mother’s Day & Father’s Day.

So I mean yeah we could each get Mini Me every other Diwali but that just makes it more complicated to keep track. There’s no real incentive to add holidays that you don’t actually celebrate unless you thrive on chaos.

There’s no obligation to actually give your kid gifts on the holiday. 😉

I guess if parents were different religions then the Jewish parent gets the kid for the first night of Hannukah & Passover every year and the Christian parent gets the kid for Christmas & Easter and you still alternate Halloween & Thanksgiving or whatever makes sense (to the parents, not JD Vance).

> The apostrophe in “Hallowe’en” is actually the original spelling of the word. It reflects the word’s origins as a contraction of “All Hallows’ Evening,” or the eve before All Saints’ Day. Over time, “All Hallows’ Eve” was shortened to “Hallowe’en,” with the apostrophe marking the omission of the “v” in “even.”
>
> Though the apostrophe has largely fallen out of use and most people spell it as “Halloween” today, some people still use the traditional spelling.

Today I learned Germany has a problem with raccoons, and a butcher decided to start making sausages with their meat.
