I should check my thermostat, everything is automatic here. It’s been a pretty warm fall and I’d be surprised if it’s had to switch to heat just yet, but next week fall should fully arrive with lows in the 40s and we’ll definitely need a little heat.
Heat’s kicked on for the first time this season.
I woke up last night thinking “it’s cool in here”, checked the thermostat, and decided to worry about it in the morning.
Today, the wind has kicked up and my office is “leaky” enough that the heat from the electronics isn’t sufficient to offset. Then I noticed my 22 year-old cat having issues with one leg, at a time that I’m worried about how her joints are going to handle this winter. So, after some snuggles, I tucked her back in her heated bed, with a blanket over her, and bumped up the thermostat.
(Probably good that I did the bump; I didn’t remember that I had set the thermostat at 55 last spring.)
It’s officially gotten cold in Kansas, my heat pump started up weeks ago and in the last week the gas furnace has kicked on. I forget where I set it, I think around 45°F is the cut point where it switches over.
66 in the house right now. Set the blinds/shutters for maximum sun on the southeast facing side (front), see if that bumps it up. High is expected to be only 72.
drove friend to airport sunday. monday fried said the thermostat emailed them saying the temp was down to 55 from the 65 it was set at for their absence. thurns out they accidentally flipped the natural gas off so there was no heat at all. got down to 52 indoors before the tech who came out found that unfortunate unforced error. (cheaper than alternatives though!)
Several consecutive days of clouds and highs in the 50’s finally dropped house temp to 65. Set thermostat to 67 and started heating on 10/30. Lower than i would expect other folks in the house would like, but they said keep it low so they can sleep well.
