Ooh Goodr’s are pretty nice. They did a benefit with the National Parks and we got a few pair.
Well, I tried to give, anyways - apparently they didn’t get a good enough stick in me and the flow wasn’t fast enough before the clotting took over. [sigh] We’ll give it another go in 8 weeks.
Bump.
i used to have easy to find veins, today for a simple medical draw she had a hard time finding it.
i dont believe the veins are worse, I think i have too much scar tissue. Sort of like testing the wellness of a steak by touch after getting a good sear crust.
I donate blood exclusively with my left arm, thinking I’d “save” my right arm vein. Once I decided to switch it up and they ended up not liking the right side and went left anyway.
Yeah I used to give with my left because it has a better vein, but then a few years ago I started getting consistently bad sticks. Not sure if it was me or just a coincidence. Switched to my right arm. Not sure what I’ll do if that one starts being a problem. I really hate when they have to adjust the needle.
I went right, as I felt it was the better vein. but back in the day when I did two armed Apheresis, my left got scarred up a bit too.
I was doing ten donations a year (6 platelet, 4 regular)
Huh. I think the needle scratched me on the yank out. I’ve never had that happen before.
Also, when they were collecting the blood vials at the end, every time they insert a new tube I felt a stinging in my arm. That’s also never happened to me before. The phlebotomist said it might have to do with the suction or something. It wasn’t terrible, just unexpected.
I had an appointment to donate blood today, and had my first deferral in a long time. I have to take an antibiotic for a few days, and that bounced me. I of course checked the medication deferral list before I went, and the med was not on it. It took 3 workers and about 20 minutes for them to decide to defer me.
I can donate again 24 hours after I stop taking the meds.

Bump.
I forgot to bump this when I gave blood a few weeks ago. Got a Peanuts t-shirt!
Enjoying my nutter butters now
Gave earlier today; was actually scheduled for earlier this week after work, but then got a text requesting I move to this morning since I was “a specific match for a pediatric patient who needs your help”. Okay, if you’re gonna play the “pediatric patient” card, I can give up my sleeping in on Sunday morning… (and the donuts are a lot fresher in the morning!
).
I noticed a blood donation reward that’s different from the standard ones. If you register you can get a Metallica / Red Cross cobranded Tshirt while supplies last
