The collapsible/extendable ones are good. You can wear them fully shortened on your back when going uphill, then use them for the downhill. I’ve bought some at Costco in the past.
Going hiking in Wells Gray Park in August. Can’t believe I am only now getting around to doing this as it has been on my bucket list since moving to BC in 2002.

I’ve had a similar experience of procrastination. I’ve driven past Multnomah Falls in Oregon half a dozen times without stopping and it’s only a 5 minutes walk from the road. Finally saw it a few weeks ago.

My first set was a cheap one made out of aluminum. Worked well for years, but eventually one broke. Sprung for the 3 piece collapsible carbon fiber set last time, because I know I get a lot of use from the poles.
