I just started Wegovy, too soon to get a read on results. I can definitely see the effect on appetite though.
That effect will wane over time; so I do encourage you to use the opportunity to focus on getting the habits established and not rely on that āfeelingā.
Iām currently trying to get Wegovy approved by insurance. My insurance says itās covered, but that my Dr hasnāt sent in a prior auth. Then my Dr says they have multiple times. So lots of calling people and waiting on hold for a long time for them to tell me the problem is with the other guy
The decreased appetite was amazing. But that was nothing compared to the delayed digestion that happened at higher doses - my appetite is back much more now than it was in the first few months (closing in on two years now for me), but I physically CANNOT eat as much as I used to, I get full extremely quickly.
And if I eat anything, I canāt run the rest of the day, as a result. I get cramps and nausea because thereās still food in my stomach.
I have an older friend who is just starting. Said everyone starts on the lowest dose, then adjusts after 30 days. First week he said he couldnāt really tell anything. Second week in he is starting to notice. Is this consistent with most peopleās experience?
From what I was reading on Reddit when I first started semaglutide, experiences are truly all over the place. Some people have extreme nausea and vomiting, some people never have any side effects. Some people can stay on a dose of 0.30mg or 0.50mg indefinitely, some people donāt even feel anything until theyāre closer to 1.0mg.
I felt the food noise quieting within a few hours of starting and never had any nausea.
I asked him about food noise and he claims it is something he never had. Only impact so far has been lowering appetite.
I do get some strong cravings and wonder how much is psychological and how much is physical. I havenāt quite reached the nothing else works stage but may get there eventually.
My doctor started my Wegovy tablet at 4mg. Good Rx has a 1.5mg dose listed.
The appetite reduction is startling. Today the only thing Iāve eaten was a regular size Jimmy Johnās. In my former life Iād eat that and sill want more. Now I should have ordered a little John.
Roughly speaking 4mg oral is about 0.04mg injectable (100:1 ratio for effectiveness. 1% bio-availability vs sub-Q).
So you are on about 0.28mg/week of injectable which for week 1 sounds about right.
Took my first does of Semaglutide today after lunch (whoops, apparently I should have waited a couple of hours after eating). It is a small dose for the first month (0.25mg/50 units for 4 weeks). Iāve never injected myself before, so my wife stabbed me because I was being a little baby about it. The needle was so small I couldnāt even feel it going in. Iām hopeful next week I can do it myself, but weāll see. She used to be a phlebotomist, and self injects her own meds (different stuff for migraines), so it wasnāt a big deal for her to do it.
I have injected it into my thigh and my arm. I feel it more in my arm, but both are pretty nothing, and I do my arm now after some bruising happened in my thigh.
I was also worried about the self-injection - honestly though itās nothing after you get past the first one.
Also, I slowly titrated up from 0.25mg to 0.50mg over the first four weeks, to avoid a big spike. Did the same going up to the next dose as well. No issues.
I also kept using the vial after 28 days without any issue. That stuff is so expensive and they sent me like 2.5mg in the first vial, which lasted me a really long time and I never noticed a change in efficacy. I did pay attention for any changes in the liquid before using it, though!
Neither of these is meant to be a recommendation for you, just sharing some facts.
Where do you inject?
For me, it is the belly area, and I generally donāt have any issues.
And I second NAās statement that after āthe first oneā, it just gets easier.
It was in my belly area.
Day 1 was interesting. I was noticeably less snacky, but I also had a big lunch and am a little distracted with work busyness at the moment. This morning I had half the breakfast I usually do (1 egg instead of 2), so weāll see how long that lasts. Normally around 9-10 I get real hungry.
As opposed to an imaginary hungry?

Imaginary hunger is a struggle for me, unironically. I get the urge to eat or snack around certain times of day, but thereās no way I actually need to eat.
I can be fine leaving work at 5pm, then as I drive home, I get ravenously hungry. Thatās gotta be psychological/imaginary hungry.
As long as I stay busy, itās rare that I notice hunger. My eating is usually more of a habit. With the GLP, at least I donāt eat as much.
