I am waiting to scout who else became an FCAS. On the new FCAS list.
Can someone with BKM 11th edition check something for me?
Does that edition talk about the segmentation theory of interest rates? In the 10th edition, they only cover the expectations hypothesis and liquidity preference theory in section 15.4. Market segmentation is only mentioned in the glossary.
There are some old questions on the topic, and Iām looking at what responses can be covered by the current syllabus (e.g. 2016 11b).
I donāt recall it saying anything more than that. Can you PM me.
Congrats on your FCAS act_123.
Thanks 3 for 7 on exam 7-9. Only took five years from ACAS and 12 years in total.
Same boat, took me 11 years in totalā¦looking back, I regret my choice of career path.
If I would do things again, I would probably have majored in computer science and gone the tech route.
It takes a good actuarial projection to see what you really want in lifeā¦
Is it too late to do data science. Iām at about the 10 year mark and still need 7, 8, and 9.
Iāve considered this. I frequently work with data scientists at my company. Data science is not easy and moves very fast. If youāve done modeling during your actuarial career, it will make the transition much easier.
If you want a data science job that pays comparable to credentialed actuarial jobs, you will have to put in extra work. They donāt have a formal exam process, but that doesnāt mean they donāt spend extra time outside of business hours developing skills and researching their profession.
Iām not saying donāt do it. I know plenty of people that donāt mind putting in extra hours but either donāt like studying for actuarial exams or they struggle with them for other reasons. Just know it isnāt exactly a shortcut, just a different path. The data scientists making FCAS salaries are pretty dedicated to their work. At least thatās been my experience.
I think data science is overrated, but thatās just me.
With that said, I think CSPA would be helpful for my work.
Does your firm provide any study support for CSPA? Anyway based on my impression, the stuff on the CSPA is pretty basic (MAS I+II, plus some predictive modeling + basic R programming) and with data science develops so rapidly, Iām not sure if it will provide us with much competitive edge
Exam statistics are up. It does not make me feel any better about failing.
same here. it seems to have been a good sitting to pass. it felt like a fair exam at the time, and this confirms it.
Can someone send the link? Thanks.
They are discussing it.
For me the basic knowledge would be very helpful. I took exam 3L and 4/C. Right now we look at a lot of univariate views.
Exam 8 is certainly helpful but doesnāt provide the practical applications.
Did they post the new fcas and ACAS list?
So I passed the hardest exam 6 since 2012, but failed each of the prior 3 sittings with pass rates over 50%? Iām now sufficiently convinced something is wrong with the grading processā¦though perhaps to my benefit in this case.
