Something extravagant you bought just because

right JAS. forgot the name for a brief moment. yeah, he meant JAS.

OK, back to thread topic…
Bought my new grill. The old one was ok, but not great (grate?) enough.
Now, trying to get rid of the old one, which is why I prefer not buying new stuff. My house is pretty much full.
If I ever buy a replacement car (might be new, might be used) that will be extravagant, as my current car is 15+ years old with 200K+ miles needs a few thousand dollars of major surgery, but a new car will take several hundred dollars a month out of my cash flow. and retirement fund. And for what? I don’t drive that much anymore, and my wife’s car will be used for longer hauls (hybrid).

What’s the new grill? You probably said what it was in the grilling thread but I forgot.

:iatp::iatp: how is it people get rid of things that I can’t possibly squeeze into my garbage bin

Is it a hassle getting rid of the old one?

You don’t like buying new stuff b/c you have to get rid of the old stuff?

I pay a guy $50 to bring out his full size truck and haul crap to the landfill.

I wish I knew a guy like that I would happily pay $50 to put some crap on a truck and just never see it again

We have ‘bulk’ pick up every other week. Our recycle place takes big appliances and electronics and big plastic stuff.

Or just place it at the curb; someone will come by and pick it up if it’s halfway decent shape–even if it’s just for parts.

Check craigslist. Or post there.

Yeah I think we’ve gotten rid of kids toys like that, but I think on Facebook

We have this obscenely large cabinet furniture… thing… with two mirrors that the previous owners kindly left us… it has sat in the basement since. Vastly more toys than we need although I don’t think I have approval to get rid of many of that… some old mattresses…

You may be able to tell I’ve been organizing the basement

I’ve had good luck with the ‘throw it on the curb’ method. It’s free and less crap goes to a landfill.

…Or call your trash hauler company. They probably will come out for a special pickup for $50-100.

Will have to look into that…

Well, big stuff, like a grill. It is an effort to get rid of something so big. Heck, it took me two weeks of recycling the box that the new grill came in.

I mean, the old grill still works, so it’s mostly me with the “not throwing away” issue. Thinking about asking my son if his new place (rental house) has a grill, then somehow get it to his place (some 75 miles from me).
Otherwise, I call the trash guys, and use up one of my annual “large pickups” on it.
Or, I could haul it to my in-law’s. They live in an area rife with what I’ll call “independent haulers” and it would be gone in an hour. My area? I have neighbors who will put a sign on it saying “be nice to your neighbors not to leave your junk on the curb.” (Yes, they have in the past.)

It is essentially a Genesis II S-335, but including the iGrill with FOUR prods and a cover.
This link includes delivery, but it’s about $200 less if you buy at the store, assuming they have them.

I was looking at that grill. Are you happy with it?

If you’re sensing some implied criticism, I don’t think it’s towards your intellect or financial acumen. Probably more along the lines of dude, you can make more money than that, probably without breaking a sweat.

I think… I think we have the S-335. Bought the cover separate - and I think delivery was free?

Edit: Okay here I am thinking mine was less expensive, and then I look at the email and it was
$1017.80.

@JFG Did my research and it’s a good one. Oddie seems to be having some weird trouble with the propane line but it’s probably just us. Also if you need help putting it together I’m available and I’ve done it before. All I would need in return is to know who you are, where you live, and I’d have to meet the entire family.

Oh, yeah.
Note that this is one of those long-term purchases, so I’ll have it for 15 years or more.
If you like putting stuff together, it’s a fun project. Only took me 6 hours (solo). If you have $50 lying around, you can spring for someone to do it. (If they take away the box and all the packaging, and there is a lot, even better.)
The S335 is often on sale at Ace (currently $1079, so maybe $100 or $150 off that), AND they put it together for free. (Not sure if they put it together at your place or if you have to haul a put-together-at-store grill.) BUT, it does not include the iGrill prods nor a cover. (Only downside to the iGrill is that it is Apple-products only, so I’m carrying around an iPad or my wife’s iPhone while I’m cooking.)

At Costco, in-store, if available, the S-345 is $999.99.

That looks awesome. Now I want to do a bbq this weekend…
