(Some) Religious People Say the Darndest Things!

Yes, I was specifically taught that the Grand Canyon was an immediate result of the Flood. The canyon actually proved the flood. A combination of the global water vapor bubble breaking, and also there were vast underground reservoirs of water brought up by God to kill Humans 1.0.

As I did a little looking to find a source for my memory, it seems Yellowstone’s Grand Canyon is generally thought to have been recently formed in such a manner. Nat Geo summary article has varying estimates of the Colorado River’s Grand Canyon as 5 million to 70 million years.

I do recall hearing that the Canyon was at least started by something catastrophic, which probably explains why Native American cultures also have flood stories, like nearly every culture.

I’m not sure how you got that from SV’s post.

Of course there was a lot of flooding as the ice melted. Flooding was likely a big deal for the various early civilizations and their ancestors.

That doesn’t mean that a single flood event led to all of the flood myths.

It also doesn’t mean that it didn’t, FWIW.

I intuit this is a situation of people misinterpreting and talking over each other more than intended.

A bit off topic but:

If there was no such thing as civilization, then yes, we could ignore global warming.

If there were no coastal cities, no farms, and no billions of people to feed, and humans regularly died for all sorts of other reasons, then global warming would be more of a curious fact than a dire threat.

Also, it looks like the last ice age took many thousands of years to melt. That is a lot of ice tho. And the glaciers did cause some big floods, just not a global flood.

Yeah, I’d like to see some documentation on the “just a few decades” thing

Better tell all the children to start wearing fake beards.

I wonder if he knows if any specific men who have these unbidden (forbidden!) thoughts of other beardless men. At least he knows it’s not their fault they are having these thoughts!

Although he should check the manual. I thought it was women’s job to control men’s sexual urges not other men.

I bet he found 70’s porn to be very confusing.
