Smush

Smush.

I’ve managed 1 full clear of a board, which isn’t the sole win condition, but provides bonus points.

I got 304 and managed to get the pangram. Neat!

Got 327 but no pangram and left one tile behind. Lots of strategy in this game. I like it.

report seems slightly tainted, since yesterday’s said “no hints” and today’s was silent on that. I used just one, to get the first 3 letters of the pangram.

I was thinking about not using the hint yet, but realized it wasn’t likely to come to me, and I would lose the chance for it if I ran out of a letter I needed.

Both Smush and Four by Three are really new games, and they’re testing things out as they go.

The primary developer (Hank Green) said he created Four by Three first on a whim and then Smush, not intending to keep them going beyond the first few days, but as both have become popular they might persist in being a thing.

They’ve been experimenting with different win conditions and UIX and things like that.

Used the hint again to get the pangram.

Maybe need to start planning several words ahead, though harder to see the merits of that when you don’t know which will be the spicy letter. Seems less interesting to me today when all letters were worth only 1. Needed hint for the pangram

:swear: I absolutely should have scored more. Got too greedy, and rightly so, in theory. With relatively few letters left, I could make MACES and have D plus unlimited E left, or MACE and have DS and unlimited E left. The latter had the advantage that SEED next will let me clear all letters. The former has the advantage that I would have a multiple of 6 for MACES, and will still let me clear all letters with DEE, so I took it. Alas, DEE was not in the word list. [In the former, perhaps SEE and DEE separately would be even more points than SEED, but irrelevant anyway since DEE was not a word]

I guess they double your score for a perfect game. Was convenient having the ‘E’ in the middle.

Never enough vowels.

I’ve been trying to get the pangram without hints but haven’t done so far, so caved for the hint this time. (re:Tri When I previously cleared my board, it didn’t double my score, so that must be newly added!)

Didn’t get the pangram today, even with the hint. But :swear: STATINS was not in the word pile. Makes in hard to plan for the ending if you can’t be sure what words are usable.

They review the words you send to editor, sorted by count of submissions. They are pretty strict about things like “brulee” not counting, but statins seems like it should.

And shouldn’t DEE have counted yesterday? At least today I had time to recover after I learned about statins.

Hey, send it in!

John Green spends time each morning approving or denying a list of suggestions. (Maybe by now he’s gotten somebody to do it, but I bet not yet. Hank made the game for his brother, and they’ve both worked on it.)
