So, what is the specific policy for my intersex cousin?
Because we’re in reality, and they are a real person.
I keep finding some people to just ignore reality when it’s inconvenient.

I keep finding some people to just ignore reality when it’s inconvenient.
So that’s the issue that needs to be corrected.
I don’t know what the specific policy should be, because I don’t know the details of your cousin’s situation. I’m also far from an expert on biology - I’d defer to the experts on this.
Yes, but it seems the proposed solution is those people should never use public bathrooms which seems like a distinct lack of respect for them.
I’ll be done with this, it’s too exhausting.
Blue eyes are the result of a mutation… virtually all phenotypic variation in biological organisms are the result of mutations. Mutations are normal.
I wouldn’t agree with the claim of ignoring the crack. They deny the crack exists when confronted with evidence of its existence.
Do we really need a policy to dictate which bathroom Rastiln’s cousin uses?
What are we hoping to prevent with this potential policy?
There’s a policy that dictates which bathroom I use, and which one you use. So why not Rastiln’s cousin?
Maybe we need more common sense and fewer policies….
Is it a policy? A law? Or a designation? Like, most places have two doors, one with a W, and one with an M, and people generally pick the door that causes the least amount of drama. Its a fcking public bathroom, no one wants to be there, and if some creeper is hanging around in either side, someone will probably call the cops, and that will not be because on what they are wearing. Like, if you are a pre-op trans-woman, and dressed up like a dude, and you do into the women’s room, and pee with the door open while standing up, I will 100% agree that person made some bad choices. But that isn’t what happens. The W on the door is not some sort of magical force field that prevents rapey men from simply pulling the handle and going in, waiting to victimize someone. Like, the whole discussion is just stupid, because non-conforming people make conforming people feel uncomfortable. There isn’t a whole lot to gain from anyone using the lesser conforming restroom. Its just not a thing that happens, at least not any more often than any other slightly uncomfortable situation that might happen out in public.
But fck, lets vote for the twice divorced pornstar loving orange man that creeps on his own daughter cuz he wants to make sure the right genitalia goes through the right door.
Too often people use the phrase “common sense” to mean “I ignore/deny what isn’t common”.
Until about 10 years ago, there were no bathroom laws that tried to be specific about gender non-conforming people. That meant that in 2010, the situation was that trans people would try to avoid using public bathrooms, but if they did they would prefer either gender neutral bathrooms or ones that matched their appearance for safety reasons.
And that was fine, and no one gave a shit.
Then in 2020, trans people would try to avoid using public bathrooms, but if they did they would prefer either gender neutral bathrooms or ones that matched their appearance for safety reasons.
Suddenly that was a problem with laws being written to stop it, mostly by legislators from areas where non-closeted, non-passing trans people don’t live and whose constituents aren’t actually affected so it is just scare tactics.
Because the biologists think that there isn’t a clear dichotomy that is easily defined and so any laws should recognize that and allow for some leeway in common sense.
I’m not sure your statement is entirely accurate. There’s a pretty clear dichotomy between males and females and 90+% of the time we can tell if someone is physically male or female. Operationally, most of the time you can define a male as someone who has a penis and testicles. A female is typically someone who has a pubic mound with labia and internally they’ve got a vagina, uterus and ovaries.
The difficulty is that being male or female aren’t two discrete states, but rather are segments of a continuum. The continuum has two very clear peaks, but there are also a lot of people, though small as a fraction of the overall population who exist in the space between the two peaks. The proportion of people living in that space has increased as we’ve broadened our understanding of what makes someone male or female to features beyond external genitalia.
Pre modern science involved proofs with “essences” such as “man is a rational animal.”
“Chimera” arguments helped discredit this approach. A griffin, say, with the head of an eagle and the body of a lion, is hard to understand with this approach. This sounds weird to us since chimeras don’t exist anyway. But something analogous is happening here.
In a way, then, people trying to define sex in this way are in good intellectual company. The pre modern approach to science lasted for a long time because it was compelling to a lot do smart people.
Chimeras exist, just not like they were described in your examples.
That is interesting but not “real” chimeras. “Real” meaning imaginary.
What did Harry Potter ride? A griffin, not an animal invisibly possessing two different sets of genes.
Common sense and manners.
I was traveling from Australia with a layover in LAX. after a 19 hour flight, I was in need of relief. I followed the signage directing me to the restrooms. LAX, like just about every airport is “under construction”. When I got the the restrooms, there were two entrances, one marked for each gender, but the M one was boarded up. As I looked at the F one, there was a second sign inside the corridor leading to the restrooms which had that universal symbol for Unisex. I didn’t hesitate and entered (no urinals I grabbed a stall).
As I was washing up, a young women came in and announced “you’re in the women’s bathroom!”.
I replied, “I believe it is unisex, actually”.
She immediately changed tone, apologizing that she was so sorry and she did not realize that.
Civility and manners are what I prescribe. Let’s just unlax a bit and be good humans.
I fully agree that it shouldn’t be a big deal, and people could use bathrooms that match how they look, for the most part. It’s a bigger issue when it comes to things like locker rooms, where people are often undressed in front of others.
I hate the entire Pride movement, because it sticks it in everyone’s faces, and basically says, “Support us or you’re a bigot!”
If people would just quietly do what they want, without making a whole spectacle of it, it would be so much simpler. Things wouldn’t have gotten out of hand if it wasn’t turned into a movement.
