Tragic house fire last night in our community. Family of 8, the father and 3 children ages 5-12 succumbed to their injuries while another child is in critical condition. They were very active in the community with the father being a leader in their local LDS ward. The mother is a crossing guard for the school just up the street from their house. My kids went to school with the mother and we know her parents well having worked with them in various capacities at church.
My wife’s mother has checked into the hospital now and it really doesn’t sound good. She had stage IV cancer, but now has both kidneys that have shut down, sepsis, and low blood pressure.
I told my wife to take her time at the hospital because she is health POA as well (and I suspect she will have to make the decision herself about further end of life care (dialysis) or palliative care).

Those are tough decisions that can weigh on someone for a long time. May she trust herself in making them in love.
Thanks. It was really tough for her as its not easy to see your parent like that. We have discussed this sort of thing in terms of our own situations (what would you do if your SO was paralysed or needed EOL care. That sort of thing) and we’re largely aligned on extending care as much as possible as long as the person is not in significant pain. Then we are both in favour of palliative care being considered).
These are tough conversations to have as it gets very emotional. Her mom is now undergoing treatment (as she was not in pain) so we largely have to wait and see how it goes now.
I made the trip home a week ago. have to make it again this weekend.An uncle just passed. Not surprising, he was 86 and not in great health. 6 kids in my mothers family, that’s the second of my uncles this year. And my mother and another uncle, both have a eₓ of maybe a year or two. 2 passed and another two likely soon.
He was born and raised in a tiny rural,town, Never went anywhere, but had a good life. Despite the circumstances, it’s also a family get together so I’ll reconnect with cousins and the like.
Plus I promised my mother id detail her car for her birthday so I can get that done this weekend as well.
Another school shooting. Elementary school. At least some children dead. I hate these headlines, this timeline.
