Here’s a nice solution to installing a wind turbine when the environment is too windy to use a big crane.

And yet…right there…in the video…

Yes, not quite craneless. But they’re much smaller than the regular cranes that they use.

If this is the install in Namibia, one source claimed the large crane was backup and not used. I haven’t tried to check other sources. Doesn’t seem particularly monumental to me, self-hoisting cranes are used in construction a lot.

why wouldn’t you install the blades before starting the lift process, though? Either an oversight and you still need the cranes to put those on or the video is just rong.

The blades are very long, but relatively light. It might be awkward to lift the powerhead with a blade attached. The images I saw had a cable running from a mounted power head/hub to the central end of the blade. Presumably they can pull up the cable to get the blade to come to the hub.
