Random Thoughts

covid changed quite a few things. currently sitting queued in my vehicle for a drive through vaccination clinic. noice. no such thing precovid.

better than sitting in a waiting room hearing everybody spread germs in my vicinity.

never heard of drive thru vaccinations. in the first year, went to a drive thru covid testing site. All my covid vaccinations have been at pharmacies, never crowded and typically not significantly sicker than general population.

The medical system I get my healthcare from did this before, but it was maybe 20 years ago.

A canadian cell company is now offering satellite texting service, 10 bucks a month. Not just emergency either. Cool beans. I might have to upgrade my phone. Pixel 9 and newer, or iphone 14 and higher can do it.

I didn’t eat any candy at all this Halloween

Of course, if previous years are any indication, someone will plunk down a large bowl of good leftovers about 30 feet from my desk. Right between me and the door.

We met this guy in Rio a few years back.

People at work are apparently unaware that EU5 has been released, because they keep asking me to do stuff.

I was just thinking of bosses I’ve had and it is heavy on non-white-male-Americans. In order, ignoring contract work:

Irish, Puerto Rican, British (white male), Turk, white male American, woman, Indian, woman, white male American, woman, and white male American (but the same one as the previous WMA, so I don’t think he should be counted twice).

I’m not sure that Irish counts as a minority anymore, and I don’t think British ever did.

Including those, that’s 5 out of 11, or 45%.

White males make up 30% of the US population.

I’ve been mostly in healthcare, which skews more female. I might miss one but my list of bosses is: white man, Indian woman (who got her US citizenship while she was my boss!), white man, white woman, white woman, white man, white man, white woman, Chinese-American woman.

Interesting… you also have a close to 45% ratio

I missed one, an Asian American woman. She was the boss from hell and I think my mind was trying to do me a favor blocking her out there.

Irish- and British-ancestry, sure. But Irish and British are foreign.

That reminds me of a related random thought: In about 2 months, I should know if I’m an Irish citizen.

I’m not sure what is the significance of foreign here. I really don’t think their foreign-ness makes them the equivalent of a minority such as African American or Latino.

Congrats on your new citizenship, if you get it. I hear there is a tax setup called the double Irish sandwich, enjoy. (Actually I think it is phased out now, too bad!)
