Good for Dan Levy.

Only 2 days in your lifetime are not 24 hours long.

The day you are born and the day you die.

Depends on how you want to define a “day” . . .

And the 2 days a year when clocks change (for most of us). And any day we change time zones.

Going west over the IDL means skipping a calendar day (ignoring precise time and location while in the air) and going east can mean 40+ hour calendar days.

And yet, according to a computer tracking the number of seconds since the start of an epoch (e.g. 0:00 UTC, 1 January 1970, for UNIX), a day is always exactly 24 hours long…plus/minus any leap seconds.

Looks like there’s some news about leap seconds. No more leap seconds; instead, some day we may have a leap hour (or a negative leap hour).

When I woke up the furnace was on, it just got colder here. I briefly sang the Glenn Fry hit “The heat is on” to my wife.
An hour later I’m in the grocery store and that song is on the speakers!

I was watching this morning my four year old granddaughter talking on WhatsApp to her English grandmother in London and was marvelling at how technology has improved our lives in some ways. When we lived in the UK 35 years ago, I did not phone my mother even once as the phone rates were many £ per minute in those days.

**However** , what I did do was write my mother a letter every single week when we lived there telling her what we did that week. She kept all of the 100+ letters I wrote and gave them back to me before she died. They are cherished by myself and my four children who were all little when they lived there.

So there are pluses and minuses to improved technology.

I remember running up a $600 CAN phone bill back in the 90s when I dialled a California BB to play an online game with a few other players (ahh..the days of 2400 baud modems). My parents were not amused. 🙂

have a friend whose daughter moved to Japan around 20 years ago. First time I knew of Skype.

Used it to call my daughter when she did a semester in Kenya ( could only talk, not enough bandwidth for visual)

Even all the complaints about Facebook, it helped me reconnect with people who were out of my life.

One complaint. Back when, you called the house and talked to whomever picked up, before they gave you to who you called. Now, you call or message your kids directly, you lose the accidental interactions with the Son In Law or Daughter In Law
