When I first started my career, I was very confused by people saying “free erisa.” I spent the first couple weeks hearing it in the same way people say “Free Britney.”

When I started working with practices, I discovered that when people said ‘PMS’ it was referring the their Practice Management System software. You’d have thought whoever came up with that would have thought of the inevitable TLA it would receive and maybe tweak that name.

When I was a reserving actuary, we had a constant, severe headache with adequately reserving for old, latent pollution claims for “Toxic and Asbestos” losses. We always abbreviated Toxic and Asbestos as A&T, and we would snicker when someone would refer to those losses as T&A.
