He did a rally on Friday and checked out for the weekend. Meanwhile, half of Democrats are questioning if he should pull out…
Are those Democrats located in states where abortion has been banned, by any chance?

I remember when the Hur report came out, how angry Democrats were that he’d portrayed Biden that way as an elderly man with a poor memory. That simply wasn’t true, they said. But it was and is true. The world is hurtling toward World War 3 and it’s apparently Dr. Jill, who can barely even dress herself sensibly, and unnamed others pulling the strings.
This is a bad look for Democrats not just because they have to replace Biden now, but because of the danger they are putting the country and the world into by having him at the helm currently. These are the same Democrats who suggested the 25th amendment for Trump. It’s all so tiresome.
I do think that Gretchen Whitmer makes the most sense moving forward. She’s been hiding in the shadows, at this point she only has to be likable for like 3-4 months, she hasn’t been recalled and doesn’t preside over a textbook example of progressive policy failure like Newsom, the Dems need Michigan obviously, and she has the kidnapping thing to essentially repeat Biden’s rhetoric for why he’s running except on a more personal and believable level.
Maybe Democrats hoped he would go away for the weekend and do the right thing and quit. The news is saying his family convinced him to stay.
No new interviews, no change in conclusions externally. It will be interesting to see how Democrats react to him staying, if that is the decision.
It would be so much easier to believe it was an “off night” if he gave any other interviews at all ever.
Obama noted he had an off night against Romney, but also gave incredible interviews.
He gave an hour long, live interview to Howard Stern literally in May
Meanwhile Trump had a recent interview with FoxNews which had visible edits in the middle of sentences
Oh wow, didn’t even know that howard stern was still alive. I guess I’ll tune in.
Well, Dr. Jill is not going down without a fight. Axios is calling it an “oligarchy” for some reason. You know the Democrats are in a panic when the rhetoric isn’t polished or even, you know, thought through at all.
Behind the Curtain: Biden oligarchy will decide fate
Dr. Jill Biden; his younger sister, Valerie Biden; and 85-year-old Ted Kaufman, the president’s longtime friend and constant adviser — plus a small band of White House advisers — are the only Biden deciders.
This decades-long kitchen cabinet operates as an extended family, council of elders and governing oligarchy. These allies alone hold sway over decisions big and small in Biden’s life and presidency.
Jill, I mean Joe, doesn’t actually have to step aside. The DNC can just go the brokered convention route. After the Bernie and Trump debacles, I can’t imagine the DNC is gung-ho on the notion of “Democracy” anyway, despite what they may say publicly.

Any convicted felons?
Watching MSNBC this morning, Joe has not reached out to any top Democrats or spoken to top donors since the debate. They seem to be in complete denial of the situation.
0 damage control, 0 effort to change the narrative and prove it was just a bad night.
Sounds like Trump strategy - ignore reality and move on. Biden however is not Trump. There is not a new controversy to take over the news cycle, no wild 3am posts on twitter to even talk about.
I don’t think it is unusual for someone to rely on their family around them as their top advisors. On the other hand, family members often ignore signs of aging and don’t make the tough decisions because of it.
What did they say?
To me, it appears to have disappeared from the front pages pretty fast, implying a lot of private damage control.
Admittedly the NYT printed like 20 Opinions in a row saying “JUST QUIT OLD MAN” that they’ve shoved themselves off the front page.
I was let down to see Obama didn’t privately advise him to drop out, instead publicly calling it a one off.
One comment was that “internal polling has not change.” The problem is Biden was behind in key states before, is the same amount behind, and the concern is still that he is too old.
So Biden still loses in November, and the denial seems to be not understanding that he made overcoming that more difficult, and this is a different problem than prior campaigns had with recovering from a bad night.
To be fair, if you want Trump to lose, and Biden decides to stay in, the points start to conflict with each other. I guess they decided Biden is not playing along.
Tucker had a post on X that suggest a credible Obama source had him saying privately that Biden could not win, in spite of Obama’s public comments (also on X).
Stopped paying attention right here.
Yes, absolutely. If Biden doesn’t drop out, then all calls for him to drop out will help Trump. And all the people who want him to drop out want to beat Trump more than anything. So they all know, individually and collectively, that they are playing with fire.
Still it feels crazy. I don’t typically read the liberal opinion articles. But I’ve never seen them echo each other so hard. I feel like I am at an intervention.
Thomas Friedman, Ezra Klein, Mareen Dowd, etc. etc. etc. etc. are all like, “Biden my man. I love you so much. You did such a great job. Once in 1985 we were on a plane together, and you said this thing that broke my heart, and I wanted to kiss you. That’s how you know it’s pure unadulterated liberal love that makes me say you have go to fucking quit right now.”
If the Democratic Party is too squeamish and traditional to push him out, the Liberal intelligentsia is certainly not.
