Picking up a book for the first time

Thinner is still my favorite King/Bachman book.

I think for me, I saw the movie first, then read the book. And found the book far more entertaining than the movie.

To be fair, the audience for the movie was very, very different than who King had in mind for the book; so the difference in the endings between the two isn’t all that surprising.

I can’t recall if I saw the movie but many of the movie adaptations of King books were bad to terrible. Fire Starter comes to mind, loved the book hated the movie. Think they did another that I didn’t see but my daughter who also loved the book did not care for the remade movie IIRC.

Not if I have to spend a lot of brain power remembering proper nouns. I’m very bad at that.

This I am okay with. But I need something more fast paces. I find a lot of historical fiction too slow.

maybe not

So then Dostoyevsky is definitely out.

I recommend flipping to the middle of random fiction books and read a few pages to see if you like the writing style. (or I guess book preview if searching online)

One I found this way is “Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine” by Gail Honeyman
