my exposure was a person w 3 rapid tests negative in 3 prior days, but one was sent in for the longer version of the screen. got the email of the positive while she was sitting next to me. so it goes. daily testing maybe would have caught her that day, i don’t know (she was asymptomatic).
i am 48hrs of waiting for my test (site did not have rapid; did not have at home either). just waiting for results but have not left home during the wait time.
Yeah, I know I had potential exposure to my mom. It’s pretty easy for me to quarantine, so I’m just holing up in the bedroom for 5 days. If I don’t get sick, I’ll take a rapid test, and if it’s negative, I’ll assume I’m good to go.
I broke quarantine to take my mom to the hospital for an infusion, and the only other reason I might need to leave is if my mom’s aide gets too sick to care for her, in which case I would be the logical person to care for both of them. But the aide tested positive at the same time my mom did, and seems to have an extremely mild case. She told me she’d rather stay with my mom than go home and risk infecting her family. So long as her symptoms remain mild, I can continue hiding in my bedroom.
If you decided not to test, would you assume you are OK by day 10 and not test at all?
Why wouldn’t i test? I have some tests in the cupboard, and they are easy to use. What possible benefit is there to just waiting?
There isn’t a benefit to waiting. Let’s say you don’t have any tests. All I’m asking is would it be “fine” to resume life at day 10?
Oh. Yeah, if i wasn’t able to test, I’d assume i was okay if i went ten days without symptoms. I’d probably get antsy before then, and might not wait that long.

I’m at about the 10 hour mark. Website claims 24-48 hours but folks on Nextdoor were claiming times between 15-20 hours. I’m already anxious. I hate waiting.
I forgot to ask if they are working round the clock in the lab. I’ve gotten results in the middle of the night before but I’ve not used these folks before.
Despite the school district saying they would only cancel impacted schools for driver shortages (which they have been doing. Yesterday 24 schools were closed in the district), today the whole district is closed because of drivers out sick.
My son is trying to view this in a positive light for learning. “Well I guess that gives me more time for reading!”
We had a sub bus driver for one of our kiddos yesterday. I predict next week will be complicated.
We are about 5x the cases for kids in the district
this week compared to last fall with whatever they will count today to add on top of it. Mask mandates were ending and switching to a case rate based requirement later this month. Those anti mask parents are going to be disappointed.
Our state is at all-time active cases and new cases by a large margin.
The entire local school system is shut down due to lack of healthy teachers with plans to do virtual education for middle school and high school next week.
New deaths are about 25% below their all-time high and our local hospital is stressing not to come in for things that aren’t critical.
My kids’ schools in NJ are all closed today because of snow, so that’ll buy some COVID recovery time!

You guys still have school buses? I rode the bus every day through my school years. Never had them out here for my kids.
As for COVID my kid says she thinks about 20% of her school has gots the COVIDs, including nearly 100% of the soccer team and a few other sports are close to 100% positive. We may be headed for a virtual time again.
On the plus side, once everyone in the school has it, you can all go back, right?
To my knowledge everywhere in my state has school buses. Perhaps not in some very rural areas where it’d be an hour just to pick up one kid, wouldn’t know.
Also, before the schools just shut down we had substitutes on some buses as well. Very nice to have lesser-trained people driving a shuttle of unbuckled children.
