True, seems that it would probably be best to throw out as many different letter combos as possible in the first 3 guesses, but I still have the tendency to try to knock off at least one of them early on. ---

Very specific case: suppose you have 4 greens and think the only possibility is a repeat of one of those 4 letters. Perhaps best overall strategy is NOT to try for it, especially if that letter doesn’t appear at all in any of the other words, because you’re guaranteed not to learn anything about the other words. (and if your β€œonly possibility” was not the only possibility, maybe you’ll find out along the way.) OTOH, there is some plus to instant gratification. YMMV. ---
