Potayto, tomahto.
And, in reality, inflation is only a **political** (I mean, shit happens in economies) problem when prices go up while wages do not as much. Then people in general get mad. And wages are slower to tick upward than prices.
Downside is these days, everyone has a huge audience to tell about the couple of items they bought that were more expensive then they wanted them to be, then claim “inflation!”
And, sadly, people read/hear all that, because antisocial media.

Thats a well known macro-economic view. Its hardly theoretical.

MV = PT

Quantity of money (money supply)(M)
Velocity of money (V)
Price Level (P)
Number of transactions involving money payments (T)

> Pretty quickly, though, as more and more $100 bills got into the local markets (i.e. “inflated money supply”), the dollars themselves became overabundant and therefore each one was worth less. Eventually a bill would only buy a cup of tea, the price of which in local currency hadn’t changed over the last two years.

I spent two weeks in Panama in the mid-1990’s while in the Army Reserves. It was drilled into us pretty hard that when we went to buy things–say a soda–we pay what they asked or bargained it down. Just because we were used to paying 50-75 cents for a bottle of soda doesn’t mean that we should do the same when the cost there is 25 cents.

The reason given: once we leave (and we were going to leave), we don’t want to damage their economy by inflating their prices beyond what the locals could afford.

People are spending 10k on golf carts to drive around city streets, which is often legal where speed limits are 25 or less. No reason to not allow small speed limited EVs with a lot less in safety features to keep prices down.

My commute involves 10 minutes of driving through a nature reservation at 20 mph everyday. It’s the only thing I use that car for. I wish I could buy some super cheap EV and just not think about maintenance or gas.

Inflation was already beat. CPI change has been stable and under 3% for over a year. Real wages are up.

The problem is that “beating inflation” means prices stop rising and wage growth restores and grows purchasing power. People _think_ it means sticker prices go back down to what they remember them being in 2018 or 2019.

The price we pay for that gap between expectations and reality, ironically, might be more inflation 😅

Yup. Tried to explain this to my parents that its a done deal at this point - prices are not going down.

My dad seems to be oblivious that the number of dollars that he has on paper in stocks is also higher due to inflation.

Lots of people also look at gas prices. I saw a lot of FB posts of the picture of a gas station with gas at $1.869 per gallon saying this was on election day 2020. Gas around me got up over $4 per gallon. It is now selling for $2.699. This convinces a lot of people that prices of everything go up and down with inflation so they are waiting for lots of other prices to go back down as well.

Edit to add: BTW, it has dropped nearly $0.50 in the last month. Which has cause quite a bit of conspiracy theory talk. Those who saw the drop before the election assumed it was a Biden/Harris scheme to affect the election while those who didn’t really notice it until after the election assume it dropped because Trump was elected. And I just laugh.

Suprisingly, the federal gov’t is on this.

They have a category of Low Speed Vehicles that do need to meet all the federal requirements. They can be battery powered.

> **[Neighborhood electric vehicle](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neighborhood_Electric_Vehicle)**

> A neighborhood electric vehicle (NEV) is an American category for battery electric vehicles that are usually built to have a top speed of 25 miles per hour (40 km/h), and have a maximum loaded weight of 3,000 lb (1,400 kg). The term, neighborhood electric vehicle, was coined by entrepreneur and designer Dan Sturges in 1992. Depending on the particular laws of the state, they are legally limited to roads with posted speed limits of 35 miles per hour (56 km/h) or less (in some states 45 mph o An NE...

I did not know there was a category/term for this. I guess the only NEV I have seen is really the golf cart, but that is a dumb way to spend 10k IMO when it seems like you could produce a more functional vehicle for that amount once you acknowledge the safety features are near 0 on a golf cart.

I’ll check CA laws, but most of the larger roads around me are 45mph or 50mph (no houses are on these streets but houses abut them – i.e., no cars are slowing down to turn in to a driveway).

OK, I’m back:

> The law says registered LSV/NEVs should:
>
> - Have 17-digit vehicle identification numbers (VINs)
> - Meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSSs) for operating on public roadways

> - Be covered by insurance

Another site had info that golf carts can be driven on roads if within a mile of a golf course, and exempt from all this business. I guess mainly so people can own their own and drive back and forth from home to golf course.
But a “car” like in the OP?
Needs to be a street-legal golf cart:

> ## Are Golf Carts Street Legal in California?
>
> Yes, golf carts are street legal in California – but only when they’re properly equipped. A street-legal version of a golf cart is a motor vehicle that is based on the traditional body design made to carry golf equipment but has been modified to meet California’s requirements for street driving.
>
> To be street legal, a golf cart must have the following equipment, according to the DMV:
>
> - A minimum of one headlamp
> - A minimum of one tail lamp
> - A minimum of one stop lamp
> - Front and rear turn signals
> - Front and side reflectors
> - A rear reflector
> - A rear-view mirror that shows 200 feet to the rear
> - A horn
> - Fenders
> - A windshield made of safety glass
> - Windshield wipers
