backstory, my son and his former GF lived with us for a year or so. I got along great with her. But it was an ugly breakup so my son is glad to see the last of her, as is my spouse and my spouses twin who for some reason seems to feel slighted somehow.

During this time, my son and nephew are good friends, and so their respective gfs become friends. then the breakup, but the two women remain friends. fine.

Well now my nephew and his gf are getting married. and the ex has been invited and she’s accepted. except my son is best man, my wife and her sister will be there if course. I’m hoping for no drama. on the mixed side, I think she’s graduated and working as a nurse now so I’ll get to congratulate her. on the other mixed side,.my son will be there with his new gf who is 6 foot tall, slim good looking and will be sporting a very large rock on her hand. So I’m not liking how that will make his ex feel.

I feel like I could’ve described the layout with fewer words but I’m not sure how lol.

And I just realized I have to be careful with his new gf, I dont want her to think I’m attached to the ex and that she’s not a part of the family. sheesh.

I really hope not.

I feel like she shouldn’t have been invited, but, that’s 100% not up to me. I’m just gonna go,have some food and a couple of beers and have some fun with everyone, old and new gfs.

Sounds she’s an actual friend of the bride. An invitation is natural. The new girlfriend (fiancée?) presumably isn’t a friend? But it’s a faux pas to not provide a plus one to someone in the wedding party who is in a committed relationship, so an invitation is expected there as well. It’s a no win situation. Fortunately everyone involved is an adult and can be expected to act accordingly. It won’t be overly weird unless someone decides to be a drama llama. And you’re allowed to say hello and ask how she’s doing - just don’t ignore the new girlfriend entirely, give her at least the same level of attention.

Had a pair of pants rip today, bummer. But they failed right where they rub the bike seat, so maybe a good sign I’m spending a healthy amount of time on the bike.

I’ve got a few pairs that are getting a little shabby, I should hop online today and order 2-3 pairs, I haven’t bought any in about five years.

i have however many pairs I have. the main thing i have learned from the various fits is that I should wear straight fit. athletic fit works for by fat rear, but looks not as good. slim fit is great if I carry nothing in my pockets (which is not practical for me). the dudes in the office in the more slim athlesiure/golf pants look stupid IMO. i should go find some more straight fit pants that land in my “cheap actuary” price wheelhouse.

I found two styles of Lucky jeans I like that fit well, and I just keep buying those. No, I’m not nearly as fashionable as I was in my 20s. No, I don’t really care.

I mentioned elsewhere that I had reactivated a dormant Ancestry account, for the purposes of pulling information together for my Canadian citizenship by descent application.

My wife was a little wistful while I was doing that as her family has never been big into genalogy / family drama etc. led to incomplete knowledge… so I agreed to keep the Ancestry account alive for a bit longer, see what I could find for her and do some show-and-tell when we go down in a couple of weeks for a visit.

I took a break from that exercise, and took the opportunity to see what other hints Ancestry offered for my tree…and that led to a whole new rabbit hole:

- I found a 19th century book documenting pedigrees for some old Virginia colonial families.
- If that book, followed by publicly documented genealogy, can be believed…I hit the mother lode.
- I’m intrigued that Charlemange is in my family tree.
- I’m oddly amused and maybe a little disturbed that he’s supposedly my 38th-great, 39th-great, 39th-great, and 40th-great grandfather.
- I also learned that Ancestry won’t try to describe relationships beyond 70th-great grandparents, and it either doesn’t handle dates prior to 32CE very well or I don’t know what the secret is.
- Meanwhile, my wife is extremely annoyed that I’ve hit the mother lode, while so far we’ve only found a bunch of farmers in her family tree.

Reminds me of Blazing Saddles. No shade on her family of course.

“You’ve got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know… morons.”
