Measles comeback thread

Making measles great again.

We’ll probably exit the WHO if this happens, and start a new THO where membership is granted with a sufficient purchase of Trumpcoin. Give enough, you are declared measles free.

I was wondering what exactly losing this status means and it seems it really don’t mean much. It’s just a label. One article mentioned the face Canada lost its status earlier this year.

Google AI tells me:

The significance of losing elimination status

  • Symbolic and practical impact: While the US has had occasional measles outbreaks since 2000, they have not led to continuous transmission for over a year. Losing this status means the virus is no longer considered eliminated, even with a 12-month period of uninterrupted transmission.
  • Potential impact on global efforts: The US, being a major player in global health, losing its measles elimination status could negatively impact other countries’ vaccination efforts. It might discourage investment in their own campaigns, as other countries may become hesitant to pour money, time, and energy into their own vaccination programs.
  • Domestic implications: Losing this status would signal a greater risk of ongoing outbreaks, requiring more robust public health measures to control the spread of the highly contagious disease. It could also discourage public health officials from focusing on immunization efforts, leading to a cycle of continued outbreaks.

What this would mean for public health and vaccination

  • Need for a more serious public health response: Losing elimination status would require a more urgent public health response. This would include an increased focus on vaccination, contact tracing, and potentially the declaration of a national emergency, as happened in New York City and Washington in 2019.
  • Potential impact on vaccine confidence: It could also be seen as a significant setback for vaccine confidence, which has already been declining in some parts of the US. This trend has been observed in other countries as well.
  • Possible impact on other diseases: A decline in measles vaccination could also lead to a rise in other vaccine-preventable diseases, as observed in other countries

Not sure anyone in charge is concerned about any of this.

US administration isn’t concerned but Canadian still is.

MAGA is proud of their measles infused bootstraps.

Texas got a handle on their epidemic?
Or, did they stop reporting?
2 cases in SoCal recently.

Texas and South Carolina leading the way; no surprise!

Will get worse. Measles has the highest R-value of any known pathogen. Once vaccination rates drop below 80% you will see super-clusters popping up all over the place.

They are panicking now:

Well, actual doctors who want to maintain some semblance of a professional reputation are panicking. We are at the Oz level.
Gonna guess he won’t be working for/with the government much longer.

I’ll answer it myself.
From April:

Per AI, Texas stopped reporting cases in August last year, cuz “no new cases.”

See, all you have to do is declare the outbreak over, and it is!

Actual data can be so inconvenient.
