There is also a Documentary on Netflix(?) of his trip to London, which i thought was great.

Heretic (HBO) A very good horror film, though more psychological than gore. High Grant in a different type of movie, but a role that fit him well. I found this to be a better horror than Nosferatu.

The Many Miracles of Household Saints (TCM) A documentary on the making of the film Household Saints. The original film, which I found very interesting was thought to be lost until 2023, hence the documentary. It was ok, nothing too enlightening. Coincidentally a day of anti-religion movies

Anora (Hulu) Starts off as a soft core version of Pretty Woman, but I really liked it when it turned the corned. I didn’t know of Mikey Madison, but she would be great in a Cousin Vinny remake. From what I have seen I am ok with her as best actress, and I am not sure the others I have seen were better Best Picture choices.

Janet Planet (HBO) I think this fits the 2024 award season. Ok, coming of age movie, very Indie feel and quirky, but the kid basically got on my nerves

Wicked: Part I (Paramount) I had not seen the play or read the book, so actually wasn’t fully aware of the plot. I really enjoyed this, the music, the portrayals. In all honesty this was not a Best Picture contender for simply being half a movie. LotRs, all were nominated only the last won, that is appropriate. I don’t believe there was any other example (Godfather are separate movies). It isn’t a given, but will basically compete against what comes up next year. I have questions, I guess I will have to wait for. It is a good Big Screen film, but also glad I had nobody signing along near me. Grande really channeled how I would envision Chenowith doing the role.

oops, forgot about Dune, but not sure anyone expected that to win over CODA or West Side Story

The Penguin Lessons at the theater. Based on a true story set in 1976 Argentina during the military coup. Steve Coogan is an English teacher from England brought to a prestigious boys school to teach. The coup happens so he and the physics teacher tack a road trip to Uruguay. There he finds a penguin covered in oil and rescues it to impress a woman. He ends up taking the penguin back to the school and uses it to inspire the young men to learn. Lots of metaphors since he is an English teacher. Really enjoyed it. Perfect role for Coogan.

Fellowship of the Rings, extended. Very cozy and my kid like it just fine. I’m not sure we’re up for a full rewatch though.

I’m tempted to try the Rifftrax version on them though.

Marcel the Shell - this was just delightful all the way around. I was skeptical of the almost universal acclaim, but was pleasantly surprised. Good one for the kids too. Just really good-natured and hits some big, dark themes but in a light-hearted way.

ā€œTop Secret!ā€
How silly can you get?

It all sounds like some bad movie.

I’m Deja Vu. Have we met before, monsieur ?

Jurassic World Dominion (HULU). I thought it would at least be entertaining but couldn’t get through more than an hour.

This Land is Mine (1943) - I stumbled across this movie recently and was greatly surprised. Jean Renoir film that is defined as a ā€œpropagandaā€ movie designed to convince Americans to support Europe against German occupation. The term propaganda has such negative connotations, but I would say this is quite a different propaganda movie. Acting is excellent, not much action, but excellent dialogue and speeches throughout. This is Charles Laughton’s movie. Made me think about today’s US political climate, where people are holding their noses to collaborate with persons they may actually disagree with and possibly not in the best interest of the country, while becoming personally wealthier or more powerful.

Here (Airplane) I liked a lot here, but still missing something. A bit forced and not all that happy. Not really sure of the Franklin story line just seemed out of place (1st owner?), the native American had some tie back, then cover 1903 - current day, but the main stories were not all that intriguing

Wolfs (Airplane) Clooney and Pitt and I didn’t know it existed. Fun and good chemistry and an enjoyable watch.

Mufasa: The Lion King (Airplane) The animation was excellent. The plot as an origin story felt forced, the music was uninspired and the humor fell flat

Robot Dreams (Airplane) Bittersweet relationship movie that I really liked, but it didn’t need to be full length

Lee (Airplane) Biopic about Lee Miller a female WWII war photographer and journalist. Intriguing and well done

Better Man (Airplane) Didn’t know the performer or the story, but I enjoyed this, it worked well

Fly Me to the Moon (Airplane) Much more enjoyable than I expected. A nice rom-com, with good humor that walked a more serious line as well

Laws of Attraction  [2004]

Garden State

The Master
