Last movie you've watched

I’ve noticed the smarter and/or more creative people are pretty arrogant. I’m getting a bit disappointed.

Quiz Lady, 2023 comedy with Awkwafina, Sandra Oh, Will Ferrell, and Jason Schwartzman.

and…?

And Holland Taylor and Paul Reubens…

i meant and What did you think of it

:grinning: I know. I was just messing with you. Sorry.

Anyhoo… It was okay…funny-ish. Predictable ending but a happy one. I watched it on our flight home. I actually started watching Saturday Night, the movie about SNL’ s beginnings. But after 15 minutes, I got bored with it. Didn’t really care how the show started. So I found the Quiz Lady. After that I just watched Bluey. Much more fun. Bluey!

don’t apoligize, was hoping so

Awakenings on Netflix. Robin Williams, from the early 90’s I believe. Seems it was popular at the time, but I had never heard of it before.

It’s a good movie based on a true story. Really showcases Robin Williams talent as an actor (rather than a comedian, which is what he’s better known for).

I forgot to post when BF and Mini Me and I went to see that. It’s gotten so-so reviews but I thought it was decent. Not as good as the first one, but they never are. By the standards of Disney sequels, pretty good.

Better Man at the theater. This is a Robbie Williams biopic. I didn’t know much about him going in (knew he was in a boy band I had never heard of, knew one song, knew he was mega-famous and could identify him in a picture). In the film he is portrayed as monkey. The makeup is amazing throughout the film. It should get serious consideration for makeup and also for cinematography which was unreal. The story was very well done and compelling. Would recommend.

Trouble on Netflix. This is a Swedish comedy/drama (mostly comedy). A guy is wrongly imprisoned for murder and he tries to prove who did it. All sorts of mayhem ensues including a jail break, him faking being a pilot, carrying a large screen TV around the city, etc. Pretty well done, but silly. I liked it.

I did watch the SNL movie all the way through but it doesn’t take much to entertain me on a plane ride. It was hard for me to get into the drama behind the production of their first show when you knew beforehand how the story was going to end.

Having said that, I enjoyed the portrayals of the comedians from that era.

If it is anything like the current SNL, every single cast member ever, who was in the city at the time of filming, had a cameo.
I’ll watch it when it streams. There is a great book about the first few seasons. I think I read this one:

More about the seasons after the premiere.

Bluey!!!

Flow on Fandango. This just won the Golden Globe for animation. It follows 5 animals (cat, capybara, golden retriever, lemur and some sort of large wading bird) trying to survive a flood of biblical proportions. Clearly intended as a metaphor for global warming and how we treat each other in difficult times. The story is OK, but the animation is glorious. Worth a watch.

you can view on fandango? i thought it was just for booking tickets

We have a Fandango app on the Roku. Flow was $5.99. We were going to go to the theater with $6 Tuesdays, but that would have been twice as much. They also have Anora for I think $7.99.

A Little White Lie on Netflix from 2023. Stars Kate Hudson and Michael Shannon and a great supporting cast. He is mistaken for a reclusive author not seen since his one book was a smash 20 years ago. She invites him to be the guest at a literary festival. He is pretty much an alcoholic janitor who decides to pretend to be the author. The constant look of complete confusion on his face is great and he plays the part very well. Worth a watch.

That synopsis reminds me of the movie Sunday (1997) that won Sundance Film Festival awards. A man was mistaken for a film director. Not a comedy but great…
