X-Men (2000)
Event Horizon (1997)
Finally got to watch this one. Research spaceship goes missing and a few years later another ship is sent out to do recovery and figure out what happened. Really good pacing, super tense moments and it takes a bit of a Lovecraftian turn about halfway through. Some ridiculousness, but I really enjoyed it. Kind of a mashup of Alien and Hellraiser.
The music that runs through the opening and closing credits is hilariously inappropriate though. You expect some kind of dark foreboding stuff but itâs like you walked into a rave tent at burning man.
Weapons (2025)
This was thoroughly enjoyable. Creepy and hilarious and really scary in some parts. Well-deserved Oscar nomination for Amy Madigan.
Went to the theater to watch H Is for Hawk. Got about 20 minutes into it and the entire complex was evacuated. Possibly an electrical issue. This was the last showing. Now I have to wait for it to be available at home to see what happens next.
Went back to watch The Testament of Ann Lee and ran into a worker outside. He explained the closure yesterday was due to a frozen fire suppression pipe that dumped a huge amount of water into the parking lot. It was a skating rink today. Todayâs movie was long and incredibly boring. Ann Lee was the driving force of the Shakers in the later half of the 1700âs. Didnât realize it was also a musical with really boring hymn type songs with a lot of shaking going on.
Rewatched Best In Show.
Wow! We did as well!
I laughed hardest at Fred Willard though. He and Catherine co-starred in several movies I believe.
The Smashing Machine (HBO). It was alright but Iâm not sure I get it. There were so many more important figures in MMA, so why pick this guy to make a movie about?
Also finally saw Frozen for the first time. Very entertaining with good humor and a strong soundtrack. The kids are obsessed with Elsa.
yeah
If I Had Legs Iâd Kick You (HBO Max) Rose Byrne was nominated and it was her movie, but it didnât work for me. I feel like I am involved in a first person view of a psychotic break. A lot of issues here kept me uncomfortable and I felt the dialogue was frequently awkward
The Wrecking Crew (Prime) Bautista and Momoa had good chemistry is this high action, extremely violent, frequently funny thriller. If your sort of thing a good popcorn flick.
The Secret Agent at the theater. This is a Brazilian film and the lead won the Golden Globe for best actor in a drama. The film is set in 1977 and is likely to be very meaningful to Brazilians and other South Americans, but I donât have the history or perspective to see the symbolism. WTF was the hairy leg all about? I had to google it to see. While Wanger Moura was good, he wasnât anywhere as strong an award candidate this year.
Solo Mio at the theater. This is a Kevin James flick all the way. He has very poor costars so he ends up looking really good. That being said, the film is dreadful. Kind of what youâd expect from Angel productions. His character is left at the alter and he essentially uses the honeymoon package solo. It all takes place in Rome/Tuscany and there is a nice piece with Andrea Bocelli. The director was awful. He thought that if he played enough Italian music loud enough, we wouldnât be able to hear the god awful dialogue. The film used very little from Rome to set the scenes and could have been a sound stage. Was hoping for a fun, funny Rom Com and and it wasnât.
I know someone who will like the second oneâŚ
Me too. Just wanted to let her know what she was getting into.
Ahe wonât care. Bunch of âHubba Hubbaâsâ and sheâll ignore the plot.
Could always just watch with the sound off and just ogle the eye-candy.

The Great Escape!
My daughter had never seen it so we watched it together. Such an enjoyable movie. She mentioned how Chicken Run obviously was inspired by it and how the theme music has transcended the movie.
Shelter at the theater. Pretty much what you expect from Jason Statham. Very slow starting. He lives alone (with his dog) on an island with a lighthouse that is no longer operational off the coast of Scotland. Apparently he has some skills and when he needs to take an unplanned trip tot he mainland, he is identified and the hit squad comes for him. Carnage ensues. Car chases, guns, knives, chains, etc. Good time.
Rewatched A Mighty Wind and Waiting for Guffman. Netflix Canada keeps suggesting Catherine OâHara movies and I keep clicking on them.
On the darker side, I just watched The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. Excellent!
Killers of Kilimanjaro (1959) - Robert Taylor & lots of African wildlife shots
