It’s been probably the most effective rebranding campaign ever.
SOME black people. Texans mainly.
Well, until the other black people (and now white people) appropriated it.
Seriously, dial it back some.
Seattle Mariners had a special Juneteenth game, where the team wore Negro League jerseys (Seattle Steelhead)
And then made it extra special by giving some fans some throwback old school racial profiling.

Dial back the facts? Ok
On
I consider it like Cinco de Mayo or St Pat’s Day in terms of celebrating it.
You celebrate however you want to. It still isnt a Jewish holiday or a secular one. It celebrates the birth of jesus christ.
For passover we celebrate by getting piss drunk on wine. Still a jewish holiday.
Sure. Just a Texas thing.
Before Biden declared it a federal holiday, 49 states and the District of Columbia had already passed legislation recognizing it as a holiday or observance.
yeah, my sister told me that Juneteenth has been a New York holiday for years and I think she got the day off from work. I didn’t know that.
now it makes more sense that it is a federal holiday if most of the states had it anyway.
Hey all, feel free to come over for free food and drinks, I just ask that you get a free shot first, and follow a few simple rules, like wearing pants and other commonsense concepts.
Juneteenth became a NY state holiday in October of 2020.
oh, i guess not years. it was earlier for new york city, but in like june 2020 in time for juneteenth last year.
It was declared for 2021 back in 2020. But NYT says something about NYC workers not actually getting it this year. Paywall blah blah blah.
I knew about Juneteenth decades ago. I remember learning about it in HS American History I think. It’s cool that it’s become an official holiday.
It’s certainly a secular holiday in Canada. No different than Thanksgiving. And Easter is going that way.
Curiously I think the only people that don’t celebrate it, refuse to do so for religious reasons.
Santa Claus is prevalent. Baby Jesus is extremely rare. Might see a display in front of a church, but that’s about it it’s only the fringe claiming Christmas is religious.
I do like to note as I drive by houses with the huge plastic nativity that baby Jesus shouldn’t be in the nativity until Christmas
Also you should check out Staten Island one year
You note baby Jesus shouldn’t be there but ignore the rest? Like the fact that Mary and Joseph also wouldn’t be in the stable until the night of the birth? Or that the wise men weren’t there either?
If you wanted to be “accurate” it would be cows eating hay for the majority of the time it was up.
Easter is definitely a religious holiday too.
Can’t comment on Canada. Don’t live there. In the US though, I find it annoying for people to claim that either Christmas or Easter aren’t religious holidays.
Sheep and goats eating grass and shrubs. This was the middle east, where those were the more common livestock. But yes, Jesus’s family didn’t show up until just about his birth.
