Israel - Hamas War October 2023

I think I’ve only made a couple of comments in this thread and they were fairly neutral. I was born to a Jewish mom and a Catholic dad, raised Catholic. Historically, I was all for Israel retaliating in measures that exceeded the original attack since the attacks were from significantly larger countries or regions and they needed to be sure that others understood the “return fire” could be quite a lot worse than the original attacks.

Based on the commentary from primarily, FormerActuary, I am now no longer willing to recognize the responses from Israel as reasonable in any sense, Their (highly pro-Israel commenters) commentary shows that they are unwilling to accept reasonable discussions or alternative viewpoints. It is sad that it has come to this for open-minded posters. I have been a fairly strong and proud supporter of Israel until this latest round of retribution. Posters on this forum who fail to have open discussions has been my tipping point. Congratulations.

My guess is that a lot of food is making it to the civilian population, or else there would be more starvation.

If Hamas was stopping the vast majority of the food from reaching lots of 11yo girls, then those girls would be dead.

I couldn’t tell you much about Gaza or Hamas or food, but it seems like basic math tells you that people are getting calories somehow.

And it also makes me a bit nervous when FA is like “well it’s legal to cut them all off” because I sure don’t want to see 1 million innocent people starve to death because you think it’s technically legal.

If Gazans are well-fed, why does it benefit Hamas to give Gazans aid?

Wouldn’t all of Hamas, being in Gaza, also be well-fed?

The Mahmoud Khalil treatment is deplorable. Much to worry about here.

Agreed.

What we are seeing now in the US is the ugly face of right-wing extremism.

Very McCarthy’esque vibe.

On the Telegraph no less.

Cease fire appears done.

Hamas leader and 3 senior officials probably dead

Hearing Hamas is offering a 5-to-10 year truce with Israel… how about offering a truce period

Is 5 to 10 years how much time they need to build up the terrorist organization?

Seems like Israel couldn’t even manage 5 to 10 months, so there’s some pot kettle black here…

24 live hostages still left in Gaza, 35 dead bodies still being held. Apparently Hamas is willing to release the Americans

That was my first thought as well. But they are offering to let the US monitor that they build no more tunnels, and they won’t be involved in running Gaza anymore, and will lay down all their arms. I’d trust the US to monitor that far more than I’d trust the UN or any Islamic state.

Israel managed a long cease-fire, which ended on October 7th. Since the last cease-fire was reached, Israel has been good about following it. The terms of the cease-fire ended. Israel wasn’t going to just sit back and allow Hamas time to re-arm, build more tunnels, etc.

Hamas planned a new Oct 7 - like invasion during the ceasefire

Who knew that Israel would create false pretenses to get back to doing war crimes under the guise of maintaining national security.

The only thing missing at this point is an open declaration that it’s going to get rid of every Palestinian still in Gaza. That’s the end game, the only question is whether the Palestinians still there agree to leave “voluntarily” or in the bellies of whatever feral animals are present.

10,000 children killed by Israel so far (1 out of 5)

Words cannot describe how morally repugnant the people who are still cheerleading this on are.

Its gone beyond criminal behavior at this point.

You need to come up with something new to post.

Give it a few months, and then we can discuss 2 in 5 kids having been killed.

That isn’t meant to legitimize Hamas’ past actions. Just a reminder that having been wronged doesn’t excuse doing wrong.
