I mean, there’s the computer chips, don’t get me wrong that’s really important. But the more we support Taiwan, the more China hates us and the closer they get to Russia and I guess the last thing I’d want is for the two of them to form some kind of formal military alliance.
Would it be worth it to say, just get China on our side? Like, we can let them have Taiwan in exchange for divvying up the chip technology and having a lot of that IP transferred stateside. Also, they would need to distance themselves from Russia.
Yeah yeah, China’s a dictatorship with human rights abuses but hey, we side with Saudi Arabia and for a very long time Taiwan was also a ruthless dictatorship with their own human rights abuses so I don’t buy that we’re on Taiwan’s side just for the democracy.
We give Taiwan to China, sell Puerto Rico to Mexico, use that money to build the wall [see, Mexico will pay for it!], and buy Greenland with the leftover money. That’s not just win-win-win, that’s win-win-win- … win.
My boss (ASA) is from Taiwan. When I asked what she thought of China’s maneuvers to practice surrounding the island, she scoffed. Her family & peers don’t think China is a serious threat.
Idk if it’s bravado or realistic, but it appears that the Taiwanese don’t think China has the power to be a serious threat to Taiwan. I had always thought it was more serious.
Landing ground forces on a heavily fortified island is really hard. When part of your invasion goals are capturing much of the island’s industry, you are limited in the amount of bombing that you can do, making the invasion even harder.
And I wouldn’t be surprised if nationalism makes almost everyone overly optimistic about how easily they can defend their territory.
China would be better off just screwing around on social media for a decade or so and spawn a MTGA movement that lets them just take control from the inside through friendly puppets.
