I was told my local coop is similar, something like $4.39. Otherwise $7 at my local grocer, or Wal-Mart has 18 eggs for $7. Beef prices likely to also be pretty steep, there’s already been some inflation and I read it’s very likely to get worse as a) there’s been drought conditions for years causing feed prices to increase and b) a lot of ranchers are retiring and there isn’t a bolus of folks entering that line of work.
Sadly, the greater the exposure to natural environments the chickens have, the greater the risk of bird flu. Enclosed “factory” farms with proper cross-contamination procedures would likely have less bird flu risk. Greater severity upon occurrence, but less occurrence.
I’m thinking the goal is to destroy the country within 2 weeks.
Funnily enough, Whole Foods has eggs cheaper than Target and Kroger.
How much is a US gallon jug of milk in the US? Milk is expensive in Vancouver, about US$4 for a US gallon amount.
$4/gal at my store, Wal-Mart or Target would likely be a little cheaper, but I like our local store.
Local convenience store = $5.50
Local supermarket = out of stock
ETA: both are regional/national chains
Sounds like Canadian milk is no more expensive than US milk despite all the criticism we hear that our milk would be much cheaper if we dismantled our supply management system that prevents milk overproduction.
It’s amazing how many people moan about how expensive stuff is in Canada and then complain about how there aren’t many shopping deals in the U.S. anymore. Their view of the Canadian dollar is horribly distorted by constant comparisons to the US dollar
My Walmart is $3.74 for a dozen large cage free.
lol, can’t forget about Canadian milk bags.
local grocery had stacks of eggs for $4.99 a dozen, limit 3.
But no egglands best.
Yeah but is primarily a weird Ontario thing. We have four litre jugs and smaller cartons in BC.
I can remember having them in the 80s in BC… Then we switched to the gallon containers.
At first I thought you meant eggs.
Local Kroger
Milk: $2.99 / gal (Kroger brand)
Eggs: $3.99 / doz (Simple Truth natural Cage Free large brown)
Target
Milk: $2.79 / gal (Good & Gather)
Eggs: $4.59 / doz (Good & Gather large… not cage free)
Walmart
Milk: $2.52 / gal (Great Value)
Eggs: $4.53 / doz (Great Value large… not cage free)
.My most recent price for milk was $3.06/ gallon.
Eta, price support program ran from 1949 to 2014. Different subsides replaced the program, trying to see net impact.
Bank of Canada just lowered its policy rate to 3% as the impending recession that would be caused by Trump’s tariffs has replaced inflation as its prime concern.
The USA provides more in the way of agricultural subsidies than Canada does. The Canadian approach has been for the consumer to pay the full cost of produce rather than subsidize farmers through government programs. As a result Canadian store prices should generally be higher than US ones.
