Bloomberg was reporting (and I think someone in the administration was trumpeting) that wholesale prices for eggs are declining. I don’t know how long it’ll take for that to trickle down to retail prices, however. ---

Due to bird flu (seems like chicken pox should be the term, but that label is taken) 2. Cage free flock size is increasing as a % of total flock size annually since 2019. (A testimony to the power of advertising, no doubt) 3. We sure count and catalog a lot of stats in the USA ---

You can actually get the market clearing price from that link I posted. Costs vary by geographic region quite a bit. ---

Eh. It is a way to always have fresh eggs available, not have to go to the store. But adding all the expenses up, you end up with expensive eggs. Economies of Scale help a lot in keeping egg costs, and thus prices, down. ---

We are down to our last chicken in the backyard and she will not be replaced. Our son (misguidedly) gave them to us as a surprise Xmas gift almost 10 years ago after our beloved 22 year old cat passed away. Chickens are a pain in the neck with the cleaning, etc., and with getting help to look after them when you are travelling. Our old hen is past her egg laying days and is not cuddly like a cat. She has beaten the actuarial tables on longevity.
