Iranian protests/revolution

I wish other countries would stand up to Trump on issues like trade the way Iran does on its issues.

Not 100% sure this is credible…but if this is accurate (several people in Iran have now been replaced with even worse hardliners) it means the next few years will be chaotic unless Trump caves.

The problem with this is the timeline…give that man enough time to re-arm and re-stupid, he surely will.

It seems as if this will end one of two ways: we topple the eviltollahs once and for all, or we have a nuclear Iran. The first option would eventually be better than the second, but requires mundane things like a plan and functioning brain cells in our leaders. Regardless, neither option will be good for the innocents caught in between along the way.

What an unbelievable mess.

It’s like a desert version of Vietnam . . .

Best case… the other regional powers get fed up with Iran attacking them as well, and stopping them from making their money selling oil. They join the US in an all-out attack on Iran, to topple the government.

If they’re sick enough of the ayatollahs, it would be nice to see regional powers do more to police the region so we can stop trying to be the world’s policeman.

The stuff you say on here…its like you inhabit a land of unicorns.

No country in the ME will attack Iran. Primarily because they can target their desalination plants (easy targets) which would make vast swathes of those same ME countries uninhabitable.

You seem to have the same issue as Trump and his supporters.

You don’t think anything through.

Also decades of boots on the ground and trillions in spending.

It’s the US and Israel that are destabilizing the region.

Perhaps a bit more respectfully, I’ve seen the US do all out attacks and I’m a bit hesitant to believe that it’s going to go the way you seem to imply it will automatically.

Case in point, the current cluster fuck over there that was originally the big can’t be beat US against some tiny little country, where the US is currently getting their asses handed to them.

Just look at Iraq and Afghanistan. The US and their western allies toppled the governments quickly and then were locked in long term insurgencies.

Perhaps a blindness to history is part of the problem here. Americans don’t seem to have any memory or understanding of how we got to the point that we’re at today. At best, they often only remember the American hostages in Iran, but seem to have little understanding as to why hostages were being taken in the first place and what led up to that.

Iran needs little to no assets to threaten ships in the straits. They have a leaderhip structure that is very deep. I am sure we have already bombed out every single military asset that we could find. Problem is, the shit they need to threaten ships can be made in basements and trasnported in pickup trucks*. We have 0 leverage with Iran without putting boots on the ground. The American public will never support that. Small chance Trump does something stupid after the November election, but it won’t result in a victory.

*My unverified assumption.

I think you should give American’s a little more credit - this war with Iran is really only supported by the 30% that are hardcore MAGA supporters.

Deplorables, if I recall correctly.

Snowflakes, also.

Nearly 50% of voters voted for Trump. However many couldn’t be bothered to show up to vote against him even after watching his first term and his attack on the electoral process. So it seems pretty clear that Americans are fine with it.

The selection of A from (A,B) <> approval of everything A does.

Voter turnout in 2024 was the highest in 120 years.

Trump is president because he promises things to a segment of America that has fallen behind, while selling out to wealthy business owners that control the media, diminishing accountability for his decisions.

I no longer see Trump or maga flags, or really any public displays of support for him. People are not happy with him. A third of America will never admit this, even in a poll, because they are forever convinced disapproval of Trump = approval of democrats.

How many of those who didn’t vote stayed home because of some combination of

  • They know that their votes mostly don’t matter in American style elections.
  • Difficulties (perceived or actual) in registering to vote or accessing their polling place.
  • They didn’t believe those of us who warned just how bad it would be if the Glorious Leader regained power.

While it is correct to damn Americans, even those who didn’t vote for him, for allowing Trump 2.0 to happen, it is a step too far to say that most of us support what he’s doing.

Trump is far surpassing my expectations of how much damage he could possibly do during his 2nd term.

I don’t think I am the only one with that view outside of the US.
